ABU DHABI, 7 MAY / WAM / Mubadala Investment Company “Mubadala”, the sovereign investment company in Abu Dhabi, announced today its investment, along with the “Global Infrastructure Partners” fund, in a urea fertilizer production plant belonging to the Australian company Perdaman, which is valued at 6.4 billion Australian dollars. ($4.2 billion), which is the largest plant of its kind in Australia and one of the largest urea plants in the world.

The project represents the largest investment ever in the Australian fertilizer industry, as it is expected to produce more than two million tons of urea fertilizer annually.

The factory will contribute to meeting the growing demand for high-quality fertilizers, reducing Australia’s dependence on imports and supporting its efforts to ensure food security for up to 90 million people.

The factory benefits from the latest technologies that ensure improved energy efficiency and reduced emissions.

In addition to dispensing with the import of coal-based urea, the plant will use clean technologies such as solar energy and green hydrogen to reduce industrial emissions and reduce the carbon footprint of fertilizer production.

Perdaman, one of the world’s leading chemicals and fertilizer companies, announced its commitment to reaching the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
