The United States imposed sanctions against the leader of the hacker group LockBit

The United States, Great Britain and Australia have imposed sanctions against one of the leaders of the LockBit hacker group, Russian Dmitry Khoroshev. About it reported on the British government website.

LockBit attacked more than 200 British businesses and major government service providers, the report said. The group was responsible for extorting more than $1 billion from thousands of victims around the world.

“The Lock Bit group has orchestrated a malicious online campaign to illegally steal and use sensitive data to extract billions of dollars from businesses and individuals,” the report said.

Sanctions include freezing assets if they are discovered and a ban on entry.

In addition, the US State Department announced a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the identification or location of key leaders of the LockBit group and those involved in its activities.

  • In February, the NCA, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Europol and the National Police of Ukraine announced in a joint statement the destruction of LockBit’s infrastructure, as well as arrests made in Ukraine and Poland in connection with the case.
  • Soon the hacker group announced that they had managed to restore the operation of their servers. However, according to the NCA, the group is now operating with limited capabilities, and the global threat from LockBit has been significantly reduced.
