Ukraine explores North Korean missile debris

About half of the North Korean ballistic missiles that Russian troops used when shelling Ukrainian territory went astray and exploded in the air. About it writes Reuters cited data from the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office, which examined the debris of 21 missiles out of about 50 launched into Ukraine between the end of December and the end of February this year.

Earlier, UN experts concluded that the missile found in Kharkov after the Russian shelling on January 2 was produced in North Korea.

If the fact of the supply of missiles from the DPRK to Russia is confirmed, this will be a violation of the sanctions that the UN Security Council imposed against Pyongyang in 2006 for the development of a nuclear program and the production of ballistic missiles.

In January, US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said North Korea had supplied Russia with tactical missile systems and ballistic missiles for use in the war against Ukraine. According to him, they were used, in particular, during the Russian shelling of Ukraine on January 2. At the time, Kirby called the missile shipments from North Korea “a significant and troubling escalation.”

The New York Times wrote in February that Russia, in exchange for ammunition, allowed the DPRK to gain access to the global financial system, and also unblocked some of the North Korean assets that were subject to UN sanctions.

In April Russia vetoed for the annual approval of the composition of the UN observer group, which for 15 years monitored compliance with UN sanctions against the DPRK.
