Chifley College in Sydney locked down after student caught with knife, teacher injured

Chifley College in Sydney’s west is in lockdown after a student arrived on campus armed with a knife.

NSW Police said while no children were hurt in the incident, a teacher was injured as they tried to take the knife from the student.

‘Emergency services attended a school on Maple Road, North St Marys about 1.20pm today following reports a student had a knife,’ the statement read.

‘A staff member sustained a small laceration while reportedly trying to confiscate the knife, prior to police arrival.

‘NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the staff member and have taken the child to hospital for assessment.

‘No students were injured during the incident. Inquiries continue into the incident.’

The school issued a statement shortly after it went into lockdown.

‘To our school community, we are currently in lockdown.’

‘Please be assured all students and staff are safe. More information will be provided shortly. Thank you.’

The latest knife-related incident follows a spate of knife crimes in recent weeks, such as the stabbing murders of six people in the Westfield shopping centre in Bondi Junction.
