Ukrainian boxer Alexander Usik became the absolute world champion

Ukrainian boxer Alexander Usik won the title of absolute world heavyweight champion. He defeated his American opponent Tyson Fury.

Fight between Fury and Usik took place on Saturday evening in the Saudi capital of Riyadh. It lasted all 12 rounds. In the ninth round, Usyk knocked down Fury, but he was able to continue the fight.

This is Fury’s first defeat on his championship journey. Fury stated, that, in his opinion, he won most of the rounds, and the judges awarded the victory to Usyk on points out of sympathy for his country at war. He said that his next fight with Usyk will take place in October.

Following the battle, Usik stated that his victory is important not only for himself, but also for the entire Ukrainian people, for the country and for the military who are now defending it.

  • Alexander Usik is 37 years old. In September 2021, he became the world champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Organization (WBO), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and International Boxing Organization (IBO) heavyweight champion for the first time. In 2022, he defended the title of unified champion.
