
A Virgin Australia aircraft has been damaged after it struck a tow vehicle at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport.
The concerning incident unfolded during a ground transfer on Sunday night.
Photos show extensive damage to the side of the plane on the tarmac.
No passengers were on board at the time.
There were no reports of any injuries.
The aircraft was being towed to undergo scheduled maintenance.
‘A Virgin Australia aircraft was being towed to the maintenance hangar at Melbourne Airport when it appears to have become disconnected from the tug vehicle, causing the tug to impact the side of the aircraft,’ a spokesperson said.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Virgin Australia for further comment.
An investigation into the collision is now underway.
The incident isn’t expected to cause any flight delays on Monday morning.
