Gal Gadot On Why Snow White Flopped At The Box Office

Actor Gal Gadot says she believes the “pressure” to “speak against Israel” is the reason why Disney’s live-action Snow White brutally flopped at the box office.

Gadot, who served a mandatory two years in the Israeli Defence Force before rising to fame in Hollywood, has recently unpacked the buzz (or lack of) surrounding Snow White, in which she plays the Evil Queen.

During her appearance on the Israeli TV Show The A Talks, the Wonder Woman actor expressed that while she was initially keen for the live adaptation of the Disney classic, she believes that the “pressure” for actors to speak out against Israel was why the movie completely flopped at the box office.

“Even working alongside Rachel Zegler. We laughed and we talked, we had fun. I was positive the movie was going to be a huge hit,” Galdot shared on The A Talks, per The Hollywood Reporter.

“And then Oct. 7 happened, and what happened all over in different industries, not just Hollywood, there was a lot of pressure put on celebrities, actors, creators to post against Israel,” she continued.

“I can always explain and try to give people in the world context about the situation and the reality in Israel, and I always do that. But at the end, people make up their own minds.

“And I was disappointed that the movie was incredibly affected by all of that and that it didn’t do well at the box office. But it is what it is, you win some, you lose some.”

To give you a quick rundown on how bad 2025’s Snow White performed (numbers-wise), the live-action flick only pulled in $69 million domestically and $145 million globally, with a budget of $270 million.

Heck, it flopped so hard, Disney reportedly paused production for other live-action projects, like Tangled.

Although Gadot claimed the “pressure” to speak out is the reason behind why it flopped, Zegler, who plays ~the~ Snow White in the 2025 adaptation, posted “free Palestine” while promoting the movie in August 2024.

However, Gadot posted in support of the IDF and civilian hostages who were taken on October 7.

As a result, per Variety, tension between the two Snow White stars began to bubble.

However, it’s not just politics that played a part in Snow White‘s place in floptropica. The movie suffered a series of setbacks during production, Zegler faced a shit tonne of racist backlash for being cast as Snow White while being a woman of colour, and the movie itself copped a mixed bag of reviews.

That being said, solely blaming the movie’s failed monetary performance on that is definitely… a choice.
