The seemingly endlessly guessing game around who will play James Bond has apparently reignited animosities between Jacob Elordi and Tom Holland, who are both rumoured to be frontrunners for the iconic role of 007.
This serving of (shaken, not stirred) tea comes courtesy of The National Enquirer (per Yahoo!), which published a source’s claims that the pair’s contention for the coveted role is underpinned by their supposedly tumultuous history, since they’ve both been romantically involved with Zendaya.
ICYMI, Zendaya and Elordi, who both star in Euphoria, were rumoured to have had a fling back in 2020, while Holland popped the question to Zendaya in January of this year after four years of dating.
It’s not only the most impossibly attractive love triangle in history, but it’s one that has apparently fuelled Elordi and Holland’s competition for the role of Bond.
“[Holland’s] key competition for 007 is Jacob, and they have a history of not liking each other, especially after the rumours about Jacob and Zendaya,” the source claimed.
“The bad blood between Jacob and Tom only makes this a more interesting showdown,” they added.
“Tom wants the part but he’s going to have to mow down Jacob to get it”.
The rumours remain unconfirmed, and despite receiving no casting news around who will take the reins from Daniel Craig in the upcoming Bond film, the source claimed Holland has been quietly coveting the role for some time.
“Tom has been patiently watching the James Bond situation for a couple of years now,” they said.
“He’s always wanted the job but he was careful not to campaign for it. That’s the strategy he used to get Spider-Man, and he’s running that same playbook again.”
Holland and Elordi are just some of the names that have been mentioned in the rumour mill in the years since Craig hung up his pistol, with Idris Elba, Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Harris Dickinson and Tom Hardy also said to be circling the project.
Honestly, give it to all of them, because my thirst for a handsome man in a suit will never, ever be satiated.
While news on the casting front has been as dry as one of Bond’s famous martinis, we have gotten a flurry of updates about the post-Craig Bond-verse in recent months.
We do know that the upcoming flick, which will mark the 26th overall installment of the franchise, will be helmed by Dune director Denis Villeneuve.
We also know that it will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios, following the streamer’s landmark deal to gain creative control over the franchise back in February.
We won’t know for sure whether Elordi, Holland or any other heartthrob has actually landed the role until the official casting is announced, but in the meantime, we can at least remain thirsty to the point of dehydration for all the frontrunners.
