Kosciuszko audition for Bodhi Boy

Trainer Lyndall Olson will throw promising galloper Bodhi Boy into The Kosciuszko mix if he can continue his rise at Kensington today.

The four-year-old, a winner of four of his six starts, makes his city debut in the Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1250m) on the back of an easy Taree win second-up.

Olson said Bodhi Boy is still gathering experience, but the timing is right, with ticket sales for the $2 million The Kosciuszko closing in under two weeks, to expose the horse who is not currently in Kosciuszko markets.

“It’s a stepping stone for him with his benchmark creeping up, we have to give these races a bit of a crack,” she said.

“I would like to think [he could be a Kosciuszko horse], this race will test him in better company so that’s what we’re waiting to see. He’s got to be attractive to somebody so he has to go out and prove himself.”

Bodhi Boy won his first three starts which led to him starting second favourite in the Mid North Coast Country Championships where Olson said his inexperience cost him.

He returned with a close second at Newcastle at the end of June then scored an all the way win at home a month later.

“In his first couple of wins he was used to leading all the way and in that Championships race he ended up midfield and among them and I think it was all new to him,” she said.

“He is only lightly raced, we’ve taken our time with him. The owner has had offers for him, but he’s declined because he’s not in a hurry with him.”
