Horrifying moment train slams into cars killing at least eight with 45 injured

At least eight people have died and 45 injured after a train crashed into a double-decker bus northwest of Mexico city, according to reports. 

The crash happened in the industrial zone of the town of Atlacomulco. The Red Cross, state police, national guard and uniformed officers from the State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office are at the scene. 

The bus belonged to the Herradura de Plata company. People on top of the double-decker were most affected by the collision.

Surveillance video showed the bus in heavy traffic, following other cars as it slowly crossed the tracks before the train suddenly hurtled into its midpoint, folding the bus in two and dragging it down the tracks. 

There was no gate or signal visible in the video, but other cars were seen crossing the tracks before the bus.

Another video taken by a witness on the road after the crash took place showed part of the bus resting on the side of the tracks.

It was severely damaged with the roof and other large sections missing. It also showed people standing and moving on top of the double decker. 

‘On the Atlacomulco–Maravatío Federal Highway (industrial zone), a train struck a double-decker passenger bus on the Herradura de Plata line,’ Mexico’s Civil Protection agency confirmed in a statement. 

‘Eight people were reported dead and 45 injured, who were treated by emergency services.’

Local authorities have made statements confirming the crash and offering their condolences to the families of those who were killed.

‘The Atlacomulco City Council informs the public that a regrettable accident occurred today on the railway tracks in our municipality, in the Industrial Zone, where a passenger truck was struck by a train.

‘Unfortunately, this incident has left multiple human losses, which has left our community deeply saddened. We express our sincerest condolences to the affected families at this time.’
