Selena Gomez’s Kidney Donor Francia Raisa Speaks Up About Feud Rumours & Wedding Snub

Francia Raisa has officially cleared the air — or at least swatted away the smoke — around years of rumours that she and Selena Gomez were feuding. And honestly? She sounds kind of over it.

Days before Selena tied the knot with producer Benny Blanco in a star-studded Santa Barbara wedding on September 27, Raisa spoke with reporter Magaly Ortiz. She was asked once again if she’d fallen out with Selena over old gossip about the singer allegedly smoking after her kidney transplant.

“Well, right now what you’re asking me is nonsense that has been in the media and there are too many rumours. I’ve never said anything,” she told Ortiz in the September 25 interview.
In other words: please stop asking.
Raisa added that TMZ once reached out to her about the story, but she hadn’t even seen the rumours at the time. “What you’re asking me are rumours,” she said.
“No one knows what’s going on, and neither she nor I are talking about it. One day, maybe we will address it.”
Selena Gomez and Francia Raisa’s history
If you missed the original plot twist in this long-running friendship saga: back in 2017, Raisa famously donated one of her kidneys to Gomez, who suffers from lupus. The transplant was huge news at the time — Selena even shared hospital photos and called Raisa her “beautiful friend” and “sis” in an emotional Instagram post.

Things looked rock-solid until 2022, when Gomez told Rolling Stone that her “only friend in the industry” was Taylor Swift — a quote that Raisa noticed and briefly commented “Interesting” under on Instagram before quietly deleting it. Cue the headlines, TikToks, and so many “former best friend” think pieces.
Gomez later called Raisa her “best friend” again during her Apple TV+ Dear… interview in 2023, saying she’d “never, ever, ever be more in debt to a person” than to her kidney donor. Still, the speculation didn’t die down — especially after Raisa’s dad, Renán Almendárez Coello, told Primer Impacto that his daughter had once called out Gomez for drinking post-surgery.
A wedding no-show
So when Raisa didn’t appear at Selena’s recent wedding to Benny Blanco — which featured appearances from Taylor Swift, Martin Short, Steve Martin, Paul Rudd and Nina Dobrev — fans were quick to pick up their detective hats.
But in that same Ortiz interview, Raisa brushed off the idea of a snub, instead saying she was “very happy” for the newlyweds. “She has a life and she is already a billionaire and I am grateful that I could do that for her,” Raisa said, referring to the kidney donation.
So yeah, despite what the internet might want, there’s no dramatic feud here. Just two people with a very complicated, very public friendship — and one kidney they’ll always share.
