Multiple explosions were heard coming from a home on Belle Vista, in Keilor East, after police conducted a series of controlled detonations of the devices.
Residents heard a ‘popping sound’ at 6am before another one at 6.30am and a third one later in the morning.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the bomb response unit was deployed after officers initially located ‘several suspicious devices’ at around 11.30am on Saturday.
‘A crime scene was established and remains in place,’ she added.
It comes as neighbours reported seeing ‘about 20 police cars’ swarm the small street on Saturday morning.
‘We thought someone had been murdered,’ one neighbour said.
