UK rocker Yungblud responds to backlash over photo with controversial musician in Australia

Yungblud has apologised after a photo went viral of the UK rocker posing alongside a controversial musician in Australia last week.

The 28-year-old hitmaker, real name Dominic Harrison, was touring in Perth when he crossed paths with German rocker, Rammstein frontman Till Lindemann, who shared a photo of the pair on social media.

‘Absolute pleasure meeting @yungblud in Perth,’ Lindemann, who also wrapped up his Australian tour last week, captioned the happy snap.

In 2023, Lindemann faced sexual misconduct allegations after being accused of spiking a fan’s drink at a pre-concert party in Lithuania.

Several other women later came forward with similar claims, but Berlin prosecutors closed the investigation, citing insufficient evidence.

Prosecutors said they were unable to verify the claims, many of which were reported anonymously or through the media, and noted that none of the alleged victims had reached out to them directly.

Lindemann has consistently denied the allegations.

The post sparked a wave of backlash among fans, prompting Yungblud to share an audio statement on social media insisting that he wasn’t aware of the allegations against Lindemann.

‘I had no idea – obviously at the minute I’m meeting lots of people every day without fully knowing who they are or what they’re about,’ he said.

‘And I can assure you, if I knew about any allegations, it would have been a completely different story. You all know what I stand for, always. I’ll be more aware of it in the future.’

Yungblud is known for his social activism, having launched into an expletive-laden rant in support of Iranian protesters just a week earlier.

The artist was performing at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl when he addressed the sold-out crowd in a clip uploaded to Instagram

‘Two years ago, I spoke about a girl called Mahsa Amini from Iran, who was murdered for not wearing her hijab,’ he said in the now-viral clip.

‘And no, it is not my prerogative to question somebody’s religion. But this community fights for equality and liberation throughout the f***ing world.’

The rocker continued: ‘What is going on in Iran, this revolution, is led by the f***ing women.

‘For four days they have had their internet cut off, they have had their electricity cut off, they are in darkness – they are asking for our voice.’

Yungblud then implored the crowd to help raise awareness about the plight of the Iranian people.

‘We have to be their f***ing light right now. So speak, shout, post, because they are fighting for freedom,’ he said.

‘They are fighting for their freedom, they are fighting for our freedom. Nobody is free until we are all f***ing free.’

The clip was met with a deluge of comments from fans, with many praising Yungblud for speaking out.
