Children fighting for life after fire rips through a Queensland house

A toddler and a young child are fighting for life after a fierce house fire tore through a north Queensland home early Sunday, leaving four others in hospital.

Emergency crews raced to the scene on Gum Court in Bushland Beach, Townsville, just after 5.30am when reports of the blaze came in.

Paramedics rushed a toddler and a primary school–aged child to Townsville University Hospital with life‑threatening breathing complications caused by intense smoke.

Two teenagers and two adults also suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital in stable conditions as firefighters worked to secure the property.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze.
