NFL legend doubles down on scathing Bad Bunny criticism ahead of Super Bowl halftime show

NFL legend Eric Dickerson once again tore into the ‘corrupt’ NFL over the league’s decision to select Bad Bunny to perform the halftime show at Super Bowl LX.

Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, will take to the stage at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday as the performer for the end-of-season finale in San Francisco – despite fierce opposition.

Donald Trump led the backlash from MAGA-leaning NFL fans and conservative commentators over the choice, due to the rapper’s criticism of the administration’s immigration policies.

However, the President has not been the only one outraged with Dickerson also taking aim at the league.

The Hall of Fame running back claimed that he would rather see anyone else perform the halftime show over the Puerto Rican artist following the controversial unveiling in September.

And, just days out from the big game, the 65-year-old has doubled down on his opposition, admitting that he had ‘absolutely not’ given Bad Bunny a shot and tried to listen to any of his music.

‘Why can’t we get somebody from right here, from home? How about someone from right here in San Francisco? All these artists right here in the area to play at the Super Bowl,’ Dickerson told TMZ.

‘I don’t see why they chose that,’ he added. ‘But the NFL does things that just baffle your mind, so.’

He went on to question how a Spanish-language show would connect with a wider national audience.

Dickerson also fired back when told that Puerto Rico is American, stressing that it was a ‘territory’ of the United States and that Puerto Ricans don’t have the right to vote.

The former Rams star widened his criticism to the league in general, calling the Rooney Rule ineffective as he insisted that not enough black coaches were being granted equal opportunities.

‘You can’t make a person hire a Black coach,’ Dickerson said. ‘Owners are going to do what they want to do. You feel comfortable with who looks like you sometimes. That’s just it.’

He described league decision-making as driven by money, branding the NFL ‘one of the most corrupt organizations there is.’

Bad Bunny has previously spoken out against the Trump administration and cited ICE agents as a reason why he did not include any mainland US dates for his tour – before once again calling out the federal law enforcement group at the 2026 Grammys.

Trump, who attended last year’s game in New Orleans, has since confirmed that he will skip the showpiece event due to Bad Bunny’s selection and will instead host a Mar-a-Lago watching party on Sunday.

Trump’s absence from the big game comes as his approval rating is plummeting amid outrage over the administration’s deadly immigration crackdown in Minneapolis and sticky inflation that continues to hammer families at the grocery store.

Meanwhile, Bad Bunny recently admitted that he is struggling to sleep leading up to his Super Bowl halftime performance.

The Puerto Rican star held a press conference about Sunday’s hugely anticipated show in San Francisco where he teased special guests and vowed to pay tribute to his roots.

‘I’ve been working on this show, what we’re gonna do next Sunday, it’s a lot,’ the 31-year-old said. ‘Thinking about the Super Bowl at 4am, that’s what I’ve been doing. It’s been hard to not.

‘I’m happy but I’m just processing, taking one day at a time. I just try to take it easy. Wake up, work out, drink my coffee, try not to think too much about it.

‘Last night I couldn’t sleep, I was thinking about it. I want to think it’s 13 minutes of doing what I love, what I like. I know I’m gonna have fun.’

He added: ‘I wasn’t looking for the album of the year at the Grammys, I wasn’t looking for the Super Bowl halftime show.

‘To be the biggest stage of the world is something that I never thought (possible).  You always have to be proud of who you are and feel comfortable being yourself, being proud about your history and where you are from and don’t let that limit yourself.

‘I feel very blessed, every step of my career I get to another level, it’s how I feel. It has been a beautiful and tough journey. I worked for it.’
