Logan Paul calls out brother Jake for branding Bad Bunny a ‘fake American’ and urging fans to boycott Super Bowl halftime show – despite moving to Puerto Rico for tax reasons

Logan Paul has taken aim at his brother Jake after he criticised ‘fake American’ Bad Bunny for performing during the Super Bowl halftime show.

Puerto Rican native Bad Bunny divided the American public with his Spanish-language performance, with some complaining that it isn’t ‘reflective of US culture’.

However, others have insisted that it was a positive representation of the Hispanic and Latino community – and how it is ultimately a part of wider American culture.

Ahead of the game on Sunday, Jake, 29, encouraged fans to boycott the halftime show to express their lack of support to the National Football League (NFL).

Fans of the brothers may be surprised by Jake’s stance, after he and Logan moved to Puerto Rico in 2021, telling fans it was to leverage tax benefits. 

Taking to X on Sunday, Jake wrote: ‘Purposefully turning off the halftime show. Let’s rally together and show big corporations they can’t just do whatever they want without consequences (which equals viewership for them).

‘You are their benefit. Realise you have power. Turn off this halftime. A fake American citizen performing, who publicly hates America. I cannot support that.’

Logan later reposted Jake’s and condemned his brother’s public comments, insisting that his sibling’s opinion on the show did not align with his own.

YouTuber Logan – who attended the game with his model wife Nina Agdal – wrote: ‘I love my brother but I don’t agree with this.’

‘Puerto Ricans are Americans & I’m happy they were given the opportunity to showcase the talent that comes from the island’.

Fans were also quick to call out Jake – who is originally from Cleveland – on his ‘hypocritical comments’, reaffirming that his place of residence is in Puerto Rico.

One said: ‘You own a house in Puerto Rico and fly its flag when it’s convenient. Rather than saying “fake American”, just say what you really mean.’

Jake currently resides in Dorado, Puerto Rico, in a 12,000 sq-foot mansion worth around $16million, which is thought to have eight bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a 40-person hot tub, a resort-style pool, and a separate entertainment building.

Bad Bunny recently released a documentary – El Apagón – Aquí Vive Gente – which explores the gentrification and displacement of local Puerto Ricans caused by wealthy outsiders moving to the island under tax incentive programs.

Jake previously criticised Bad Bunny on the Philip DeFranco Show in 2022, saying he finds it ‘hypocritical’ that he ‘takes advantage of the tax scheme that he is also publicly attacking’.

Jake has previously proudly showcased the Puerto Rican flag during sports events and wore it on his boxing shorts during his fight against Anthony Joshua last year.

Picking up on the conflicting behaviour, one person said: ‘Jake Paul currently lives in Puerto Rico to avoid paying American Taxes. You can’t make this up’.

Another said: ‘Saying all this while living in Puerto Rico AND benefiting off of it, mind you. wearing the PR flag on everything you do as if you are one of us but now we REAL puertoricans are fake americans? fuck you you lame a*s b*tch.’

While Logan spoke out against his brother’s views online, some noted that when asked if he was excited for Bad Bunny’s show he had already said ‘no’.

Logan gave his answer on video when quizzed by Fox News at the game.

Confused fans queried: ‘Damage control. You screamed ‘NO’ to the camera when you were asked “if you were excited for the halftime show” an hour before. Does not align if you ask me’;

‘You said you weren’t excited for the show so why you switching up now?’ 

Just a week before the Super Bowl, Bad Bunny criticized the Trump administration’s US Immigration and Customs Enforcement department while accepting the award for Best Música Urbana Album at the Grammys.

He said: ‘We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans,’ he said during his acceptance speech for Best Música Urbana Album. ‘I want to say to people, I know it’s tough not to hate in these days, and I was thinking we get contaminados [contaminated].’

‘The hate gets more powerful with more hate,’ the musician added. ‘The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love. So, please, we need to be different. If we fight, we have to do it with love. We don’t hate them. We love our people, we love our family and that’s the way to do it. With love. Don’t forget that, please.’

Trump has now called Bad Bunny’s all-Spanish Super Bowl halftime show ‘one of the worst ever’ and a ‘slap in the face’ to America.

The US President said the rapper’s gig was ‘absolutely terrible’ and that there was ‘nothing inspirational’ about choosing a star who didn’t perform in English.

Trump was also deeply unhappy about some of the suggestive dancing because the artist repeatedly grabbed his crotch and there were women twerking on stage.

‘Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World’, he said in is excoriating review on Truth Social.

‘It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence’. 

Bad Bunny – whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio – was joined by Lady Gaga, Pedro Pascal, Ricky Martin, Jessica Alba, Karol G and Cardi B as he headlined the show, where the Seattle Seahawks trounced the New England Patriots by 29–13.

The football field at the Levi’s Stadium in California was transformed into a sugarcane plantation and included domino players, a Latino wedding and utility poles for him to climb up to perform. 

Bad Bunny, a vocal opponent of Trump’s ICE agency, listed countries through North and South American while holding a football with the words, ‘Together, we are America’ written on it.

A message on the big screen then read: ‘The only thing more powerful than hate is love.’

At one point he also placed his hand on a young boy’s head and handed him a Grammy. Viewers initially thought it was Liam Conejo Ramos, the five-year-old who was detained by ICE agents last month. But in fact it was a young actor.

While fans called it a love letter to Latin and Hispanic culture, the performance angered Trump.

He wrote: ‘This “Show” is just a “slap in the face” to our Country, which is setting new standards and records every single day — including the Best Stock Market and 401(k)s in History! 

‘There is nothing inspirational about this mess of a Halftime Show and watch, it will get great reviews from the Fake News Media, because they haven’t got a clue of what is going on in the REAL WORLD’.

As an afterthought, Trump repeated his regular criticism of his least-favorite NFL rule, writing: ‘And, by the way, the NFL should immediately replace its ridiculous new Kickoff Rule. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!’

Trump’s MAGA base also voted with their fingers by turning off NBC at halftime and instead firing up YouTube to watch Turning Point USA’s ‘All-American’ show instead.

Trump also suggested last week he was staying away because of the choice of musicians.

‘I’m anti-them. I think it’s a terrible choice. All it does is sow hatred. Terrible’, he said when asked about Bad Bunny and Green Day. 

Over 5 million fans were on the live stream at its peak to watch Kid Rock and Co provide an alternative halftime entertainment.

Trump is yet to share his thoughts on the Charlie Kirk-themed show that aired alongside the official one, but it would not be surprising to hear the president give that a more positive review.

Bad Bunny’s mostly Spanish set began with Tití Me Preguntó.

He was dressed in a short white shirt and white trousers with drawstrings, and he carried a football in his white-gloved hands. 

After the opener came Yo Perreo Sola, Safaera, Party, Voy a Llevarte Pa’ PR, EoO and Monaco. 

In an amusing prerecorded segment, Bad Bunny appeared to fall through a roof into the living room of a shocked family, but he quickly brushed the plaster dust off his shoulders and kicked open the front door.

He was pulled down a row of violinists as a couple appeared to conclude a marriage ceremony, leading into Gaga’s surprise appearance for one of her songs.

Gaga, wearing a blue sleeveless dress with a plunging neckline and a tiered skirt, performed a rendition of Die With A Smile, but rearranged into a Salsa-style version

As Bad Bunny left the maze of sugar cane, he stopped to sing next to fruit vendors, a table of old men playing games and a beautician styling another woman’s nails.

He then emerged on the roof of a building while a group of celebrities.

He delivered a rare English message during the performance, declaring, ‘God Bless America,’ before naming countries across the Americas and highlighting his Puerto Rican heritage.

Ricky Martin also joined the show to perform Lo que le pasó a Hawaii, which debuted on Bad Bunny’s most recent LP, the 2025 hit Debí Tirar Más Fotos.

In a slightly bizarre section, the headliner climbed a platform and was surrounded by dancers dressed like workers who dangled from wires as if they were repairing transformers on electrical poles.

He closed out his set with El Apagón, CAFé CON RON and his latest LP’s title track, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS.

While the performance was entertaining as a pure spectacle, fans also noticed a number of political messages woven into it.

Dr Allison Wiltz wrote on X: ‘The history of sugar slavery runs deep throughout the Southern states, the Caribbean, and parts of South America. His performance was brilliant, thought provoking, well executed.’

Stage design also included imagery of exploding power grids, in a nod to the Puerto Rico’s frequent and often prolonged outages – an issue Bad Bunny has addressed in his music before.

In 2022, he released a mini documentary titled El Apagón – meaning the ‘Power Outage’ in English – focused on the island’s ongoing electricity problems. 

Other viewers were considerably more forgiving than Trump, with one gushing on X: ‘As a lady gaga fan and a bad bunny fan this halftime show was straight up crack in my veins.’

Someone else said: ‘Bad Bunny was entertaining. Obviously some of the lyrics and dancing are what you’d expect from a hip hop act, but overall, pro-family, pro Puerto Rican/Latin culture – yes, but also pro American. Sorry, just my honest assessment.’

‘The performance was a vibrant, well-put-together celebration and tour of Puerto Rican and broader Latin culture. Opening in sugar cane fields, nods to street foods, wedding (between man and woman!)’, wrote a third.

But some sided with the President, with one writing: ‘The NFL had a once in a lifetime to honor the USA with a Happy 250th Birthday half-time show. They blew it with foreign flags and a Spanish speaker. What a disgrace.’

Another wrote: ‘The last I knew the Super Bowl was an American game, not a world game. The only flag that should have flown is the Stars and Stripes.’

‘Welcome to Roger Goodell’s NFL!!! My grandchildren and I tuned in to the TPUSA halftime show. My wife said she watched a little of Bad Bunny out of curiosity and everything was in Spanish and ‘he grabbed his di*k majorly’. Goodell has allowed scum into our American pastimes!!’ wrote another X user.
