The names of the leading stars for season two of The Golden Bachelor Australia have leaked and it seems the reality show is shaking things up.
The Daily Mail reports that not one, but two, men will take the reins from Barry Myrden as the joint faces the new instalment, namely Ed Savage and Mathew Collett.
According to the outlet, Savage is a logistics manager at a transport company, and Collett is a father-of-three and co-founder of a skincare company called Solar D Skincare.
The pair’s casting was confirmed when they were spotted arriving at the (apparently rowdy) Golden Bachelor mansion in Sydney last week ahead of filming, which has officially begun for season two.
A bunch of women vying for the two Bachies’ hearts were also reportedly spotted, but their identities have not yet been revealed. Last year’s batch of romantic hopefuls included Abbie Chatfield’s mum, Laura Neal, and eventual winner Sunny Long.
It’s not yet known how the casting of two men will affect season two, but the double-lead shakeup is not totally out of the ordinary in the BCU (Bachelor Cinematic Universe).
Season 11 of The Bachelor Australia, dubbed The Bachelors, featured three Bachelors in Wesley Senna Cortes, Luke Bateman, and Ben Waddell, with the multi-lead format resulting in slight changes to how the dates and cocktail parties play out.
The casting leak comes after months of rumours around who’ll appear in the show, with reports circulating last year that producers were struggling with the very small pool of available single people over the age of 50.
“The Golden Bachelor world is small,” an insider said. “It’s like musical chairs for fifty-something romantics.” Given the age bracket, I imagine the round of musical chairs is soundtracked by ABBA?
We’ll be sure to report back when casting announcements beyond the two Golden Bachie stars are revealed, but we do know that Samantha Armytage will be back as host, and that season two is expected to air later this year.
With filming underway and the two stars locked in, it won’t be long before we’re all bracing for hay fever at The Golden Bachelor’s rose ceremonies.
