Laura Byrne Calls Out MAFS’ Tyson In Heated TV Moment

If you’ve felt outraged watching this year’s season of Married At First Sight (MAFS) and hearing intruder Tyson Gordon’s controversial “anti-woke” views on women and relationships, then you’d be pleased to know that he’s been put in his place.

The former soldier appeared as a guest in Wednesday night’s episode of Stan’s aftershow MAFS: After The Dinner Party alongside fellow participant Bec Zacharia, and was promptly grilled by hosts Laura Byrne, Brittany Hockley and Jules Lund about some of his recent remarks.

Laura — who Tyson incorrectly referred to as “Lauren” when they first met — pointed out how he repeatedly interchanged the words “traditional” and “submissive” when speaking about his perfect partner, and questioned if he knew the correct definitions.

“You say submissive, and maybe this is a case of not understanding what the word means,” Laura began, to which Tyson quickly replied, “I disagree”.

“Submissive means — no, I’ll give you the definition, so you know,” she continued, as he once again cut her off and said, “And then I’ll tell you my definition”.

“No, no, but there is an English definition that’s in the dictionary,” Laura remarked.

Tyson then said he thought Laura was “sort of talking down” to him, and she confirmed that she was because “it’s frustrating and really offensive as a woman”.

“Submissive means, as the dictionary definition, compliant and obedient. That’s what’s submissive means,” she said. “It’s not my definition, it is the English Oxford dictionary definition of submissive. Is that what you want?”

Tyson went on to say that he wants to be “the leader of the house” and questioned if that meant he was controlling.

“I would say if you want someone who is obedient, yes, it’s controlling, and you want a dog,” she told him.

“Okay, well then there you go, maybe that’s what I want,” he responded. “I don’t want a literal dog, but I want to be the man of the house.”

The panel of hosts then burst out laughing when Tyson said he doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with being a leader, and he’s “sure that every female wants that”.

“Well, look, maybe not every woman, and I don’t literally mean controlling,” he said in an attempt to backtrack. “No, but just listen, I don’t mean literally put a leash — I’m not that sort of guy. I’m not saying it like that.”

He then clarified that he doesn’t want a subservient wife who feels like a “dog or a slave”, but he does want traditional values in a marriage. He also said he believes men and women are equal — which is great, but maybe he should start acting like it.

Laura certainly isn’t the only woman who has called out Tyson on his controversial views, with his MAFS partner Stephanie Marshall telling PEDESTRIAN.TV that she believes he doesn’t have “a great deal of emotional intelligence”.

“How he thought I was woke by taking a 10 metre walk is quite interesting — I’d love to know more about that. And calling me ‘frigid’ because I didn’t want to kiss a stranger, that’s also very interesting,” she said.

She also questioned why he made such a big deal out of her “body count” (which is lower than his) and the fact that she’s two years older than him, and described him as “contradictory”.

“When he started going into the fact that he wants this submissive woman and he wants someone who’s in their mid-20s or younger than him, to be honest with you, all I could think about in that moment was that he’s just looking for someone younger to manipulate,” she said.

At this stage, it’s yet to be confirmed whether Stephanie and Tyson make it to the end of the experiment together. However, they don’t currently follow each other on Instagram — and is anyone really surprised?
