Kyle Sandilands Officially Files Lawsuit Against ARN, Claims Termination Of $100 Million Contract Was ‘Invalid’
Kyle Sandilands has officially launched legal action against his employer ARN over the termination of his $100 million Kyle and Jackie O contract, claiming the move was “invalid” on the grounds he hadn’t breached any of the contract terms.
Sandilands filed the proceedings in the Federal Court on Friday, with ARN confirming the legal move in a statement to the ASX earlier this morning.
It comes after ARN tore up Sandilands’ 10-year contract, signed back in 2023, over an on-air spat with his co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, which the radio network said amounted to “serious misconduct” on his part.
But Sandilands has hit back at the claims in his legal filings, saying his termination was “invalid” because there was no serious misconduct or breach of contract during the argument with Henderson.
“The termination was unconscionable under the Australian Consumer Law,” the documents state, per the Sydney Morning Herald. “There was no act of serious misconduct or breach of contract.”
Sandilands is seeking unspecified damages, but ARN has disputed his claims and said it intends to defend its position in court proceedings. “Given the early stage of the matter, ARN is unable to reliably estimate the outcome or any potential financial impact,” the network said, per SMH.
The controversial radio host had flagged legal action in a bombshell statement shared last week, claiming his time on radio was “not done”, that his termination was “invalid”, and that the situation was “over to my lawyers”.
The Kyle and Jackie O Show was pulled off the air after ARN claimed Henderson had “given notice” she could no longer work with Sandilands following an argument over astrology during a February 20 broadcast.
But Henderson later denied ever quitting or resigning in her own statement, while saying she was addressing the matter through legal channels.
Alleged details of those legal channels were shared last week by industry sources, who claimed Henderson was also pursuing wrongful termination proceedings.
Sandilands confronted his longtime co-host live on air over her “unworkable” fixation on star signs during a segment discussing Andrew Mount-Batten Windsor’s birth chart, but the shock jock said the moment was the “kind of thing we’ve done a hundred times in 25 years”.
A rotation of temporary radio hosts like Kent “Smallzy” Small and Mike Etheridge have been filling in on morning KIIS FM segments in The Kyle and Jackie O Show‘s absence.
