My mailman began showing up at my home WITHOUT parcels to deliver… and it only got creepier from there

A young woman has detailed the terrifying encounter where her ‘creepy’ mailman began turning up at her home unannounced, occasionally without any parcels, just to say hello.

The 23-year-old has lived in her apartment in a ‘nice’ neighbourhood for two years.

For the most part, the mail gets delivered to the mailboxes at the front entrance of the apartment building. Occasionally, packages are dropped off at her doorstep.

But what started as a friendly encounter quickly spiralled into months of ‘stalking’.

She was working from home one day when her doorbell rang, and noticed the mailman in his 30s with ‘dishevelled thin hair’, was waiting outside with her parcel.

‘I opened the door, smiled, and said “thanks so much” and went to take the package. He stopped and stared at me like something was wrong so I was like, “oh sorry did you need to take a picture of the delivery or something?”‘ she said in a Reddit thread.

‘And to my surprise he said “I know you. I’ve seen you before” and… my face changed, my body demeanour gets uncomfortable, and I move behind the door.

‘I said, “I’m sorry I don’t think we’ve met”. I went to shut the door but he raised his voice, takes a step forward and said “I’ve seen your name on your mail, I found you on Instagram”.’

Confused and concerned, the woman said her face went ‘white and froze’.

‘I said, “me?” I was kind of like a deer in headlights. He said, “yeah you are a person of interest on Instagram for me. Your account was private but you’re pretty”.

‘I said, “thanks”, and slammed the door, locking it quickly.’

The awkward exchange was recorded on her Ring Camera so she later showed the footage to her then-boyfriend, who agreed the man was acting ‘weird’.

‘A few days later, on Saturday, he’s back at my door. He rang the bell about 10 times waiting a few minutes just staring. I answered him through the doorbell and said, “Hi you can just leave any mail, thanks”,’ she said.

‘What he said next made me shake. He said, “I actually don’t have any mail for you today, I just wanted to say hi. Can I come in for a glass of water?” I decided to just not answer. To be honest, I didn’t know what to say.’

Two weeks later, her boyfriend stayed the night so he slept in while she left for work.

She received a phone call around 10.30am from her panicked boyfriend urging her to check the camera as she wouldn’t believe what just happened.

‘The mailman came. He rang the bell a few times and my boyfriend answered the door. The mailman took a step back and my boyfriend stood for a moment and they stared at each other.

‘He realised the mailman didn’t have anything in his hands. He said, “Can I help you?” And the mailman said, “Where’s the small girl who lives here?” I’m pretty petite.

‘My boyfriend was stunned and said, “I live here too. From now on leave our packages downstairs” and slammed the door.’

Feeling relieved, the woman said she was glad her boyfriend made that statement as he was only staying over two nights a week.

‘It seemed to work. I didn’t see the mailman again at all actually,’ she said.

Just a few months ago, the couple’s relationship ended.

‘I completely forgot about the mailman until today. I was entering my building where he was exiting at the same time. He stared at me and I went to walk by,’ she explained.

‘He turned to walk after me and said, “Hey I haven’t seen that guy in a while who used to live with you. Did he move out?” I panicked and walked faster, grabbing my keys but I lied and said, “oh he’s around.”

‘As I entered quickly, I said, “Hey honey, I’m home” and slammed it fast. I don’t know why I lied but something told me to make it clear I wasn’t alone.’

What would you do if someone in a position of trust used their job to invade your privacy?

She decided to contact her property manager to inform them about the ‘creepy’ mailman, as well as send the video recordings of the awkward interactions.

‘He said he will implement a new policy where mail personnel are not permitted to walk around the complex but instead must go to the designated mail room and leave,’ she said.

Taking things further, she purchased large men’s work boots from an op shop to leave them outside her door to indicate her ‘boyfriend’ was living with her.

The woman said she reported the matter to the post office and police.

‘They assured me they will be looking into the matter as well as assigning a new mailman to my route. I also made sure to go down to my local police precinct and file an incident report and they have the videos as well,’ she explained.

Her story struck a chord with hundreds of people, with many taking particular issue with the man’s ‘stalking’ and ‘creepy’ behaviour.

‘As long as he thinks you have a man in the house, he will leave you alone but there’s really no guarantee. I’ve had a stalker before and sometimes they escalate. It can get bad, so take care of yourself,’ one woman shared.

‘Remember, it is the polite girls that end up in coffins. I was raised to be polite to everyone, including creeps, and society needs to stop doing that. Creeps just get better at their methods with each girl, before they perfect their art,’ another warned.

‘He’s being a creepy stalker using his job to keep tabs on you. Never ever gaslight yourself to accommodate a man, it’s his feelings versus your safety. They feel comfortable disturbing your peace so never feel bad about disturbing theirs or calling it out,’ one added.

Many shared ideas on what to do to deter the creepy mailman.

‘Leave some men’s boots in front of your door. The Goodwill has cheap worn in pairs you can get cheap. This will make it look like a man lives there,’ one shared.

‘Move them around regularly, take them in and out so it looks like they’re being used. If you can walk through the odd muddy puddle while wearing them, that would be good too. This guy is an absolute creep,’ another suggested.

‘Use a typical male name when ordering things online every once in a while too, so it looks like a man gets mail there as well,’ one added.
