Insiders Reveal Why Helena Bonham Carter Quit White Lotus & Which Star Is Tipped To Replace Her

Multiple insiders are coming forward with claims about Helena Bonham Carter’s exit from the cast of The White Lotus season four, and the story might be spicier than we thought.

ICYMI, it was announced over the weekend that Carter, initially tipped as the lead star, had departed from her role in the France-set season of the HBO show just nine days into filming.

At the time, a HBO spokesperson put the exit down to creative differences between Carter and The White Lotus’ creator Mike White, saying the pair “did not align once on set”.

“With filming just underway on season four of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,” the spokesperson said.

“The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks,” they added.

While the statement certainly has the faint whiff of something more dramatic going down behind the scenes, sources are now claiming Carter leaving the role was due to a “clash” with her co-star Sandra Bernhard.

“The word is Helena left because of a clash with Sandra Bernhard,” an anonymous source told The Daily Mail.

Nipping the chatter in the bud, a representative for Carter reportedly denied the claim to The Daily Mail and insisted she hadn’t even met Bernhard in the early stages of filming the show.

But the rumours have persisted, including in the form of an anonymous tip shared by gossip page DeuxMoi, who supposedly had tea about Carter’s replacement for The White Lotus.

“Jennifer Tilly is in negotiations to replace Helena Bonham Carter in The White Lotus season four,” the insider claimed. “[An] announcement should be made the week of May 4 if all goes well.”

If you’re not across her work, Tilly is an Oscar-nominee known for her roles in Chucky and Liar Liar, and more recently appeared in the Bravo reality series, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Tilly has long been atop fan-cast lists for The White Lotus, but the tea about her replacing Carter, and the claims of a “clash” with Bernhard, have not been confirmed.
