Former Attorney General Pam Bondi was diagnosed with thyroid cancer shortly after President Donald Trump ousted her from the Justice Department last month, according to a report.
Bondi has undergone treatment and is recovering from the disease, Axios first reported.
A White House official confirmed the reporting to The Independent.
Katie Miller, the wife of White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, said that “Pam has been quietly kicking cancer’s ass the last few weeks,” in a post on X Tuesday night.
“@PamBondi has a heart of gold,” she added.
Florida Sen. Rick Scott also shared the news of his “dear friend” in a social media tribute.
“This is terrible news, but Pam has been a dear friend for years, and I know she’s a fighter,” Scott posted on X Wednesday morning. “If anyone can beat this, it’s her. Anne and I are praying for Pam and her family as they go through this.”
Florida’s official GOP X account said it was “praying” for Bondi in a post. “Pam has spent her life fighting for Florida and our nation with strength and conviction, and we know she will face this challenge with that same strength,” the group posted. “We are praying for healing and a swift recovery.”
Bondi’s diagnosis comes two months after Trump announced that Susie Wiles, his White House chief of staff, was also undergoing treatment for early stage breast cancer.
Trump announced Bondi’s exit from the Justice Department on April 2 and she was recently appointed by the president to join an advisory committee on AI policy.
Vice President JD Vance said that Bondi was “an enormously valuable asset to the president’s team” and she would continue to work with the administration.
“I’m thrilled for her and for all of us that she’s going to remain involved in confronting some of the most important issues the administration faces,” Vance said in a statement to The Independent.
Bondi will reportedly sit on the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, whose panellists include Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Nvidia co-founder Jensen Huang. The council is chaired by David Sacks, former White House AI adviser, and science adviser Michael Kratsios.
Her role will be “facilitating coordination” between the Trump administration and the tech moguls on the panel, according to Axios.
