Oil prices climbed more than 3% after the latest escalation. Regional tensions were further heightened by Israel’s decision to expand military operations in Lebanon against the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement.

“Violation on one front is a violation of the ceasefire on all fronts. The US and Israel are responsible for the consequences of any violation,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said.
The conflict, which began on February 28, has killed thousands, primarily in Iran and Lebanon, and disrupted global energy markets. Iran’s restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies, have contributed to rising energy prices.

Despite a ceasefire that has been in place since April, Iran and the US have continued to exchange military strikes. Pakistan has been attempting to mediate a broader peace agreement.
The US military said it struck Iranian air-defence systems, a ground-control station and drones over the weekend after what it described as aggressive Iranian actions, including the downing of a US drone over international waters. Reuters
