Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes Wife Unhappy With His Political Content

Australian comedian and radio host Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes has confirmed that his wife, Holly, isn’t too keen on his pivot to political content, which usually entails a bunch of blistering rants about the Albanese government.
In early June, the former Masked Singer judge shot himself into infamy with his fiery rant on the Today show, in which he slammed the government over its handling of the housing crisis.
However, in his personal life, the rant — which has more than 186K views on YouTube and has been picked up on TikTok by multiple content creators — and his other AusPol content haven’t sat well with his wife.
Speaking to 101.9 The Fox’s Fif, Fev & Nick, Hughesy admitted that his wife of nearly 20 years wasn’t happy with his political content.
“How is [Holly] going now that you’re all political?” Brendan Fevola asked.
“She doesn’t like it, she says that I shouldn’t be political,” the comedian responded.
But despite his wife’s concerns, Hughesy claimed that he’s received an outpour of online support which has manifested into real life, which he described as “weird”.
“I’m hearing that every day all over Australia, which is weird,” Hughesy shared.
“I’m walking down the street, and people are coming out of shops, they’re stopping their ute in the middle of the road and running at me. I’m gonna get bashed, and they just want to hug me.”
The Aussie comedian went on to explain that he’s just wants to fight for what’s right for the country, stating that the standard of living is “going down a lot” due to “the government [taking] too much money off hard working people”.
“I just want our standard of living [to rise], as a country is going down a lot, and I believe it’s because the government takes too much money off hard-working people and misuses that money because they don’t respect the money, because they didn’t earn the money,” Hughesy continued.
“So leave as much money in the hands of the people who earn it, so they respect it, and then everyone’s standard of living will rise. But when a government just takes all this money and just burns it, we all get poorer because inflation goes through the roof.”
Hughesy’s infamous rant about the Albanese Government
Taking to the Today show in early June, Hughesy “unleashed” on the Albanese government, stating “the people in charge of our country are idiots”.
“This has cost the whole country so much money already, the housing market has tanked, they’ve cost every Australian who owns a home probably 15 per cent of their housing value, you can’t lie about that, Jim and Albo, you can’t do that,” Hughesy said.
“The people in charge of our country are idiots, they treat our money like they found it in a sack by the river and they’ve gotta spend it before someone finds out.”
However, in the midst of his rant, the comedian also appeared to take aim at immigration and questioned why some had access to government support while not being Australian citizens.
“We are sick of them stealing our money and for first homebuyers, I heard Albo on the radio yesterday and he said they don’t have to be citizens to take advantage of the first homebuyers scheme, because some countries don’t allow dual citizenship, so basically there are over 50,000 people bidding against Australians at auctions, who don’t want to give up citizenship of their home country and he has given them our money to buy houses in Australia,” Hughesy spouted.

“I am happy for you to stay here, or if you want to go home, you can go home, but you are not getting our money to buy houses her… that’s insane.”
This particular snippet made waves across social media, with content creators like activist Jeff Kissubi calling the comedian out.
While he has passionate views on politics, Hughes says he doesn’t fancy being affiliated with any political party.
