How to spend the perfect long weekend in Sóller, Majorca
FRIDAY
5pm A two-and-a-half-hour flight from London and a 30-minute taxi ride takes us to the picturesque Port de Sóller. The clifftop Jumeirah hotel (above), overlooking sea and mountains, is the jewel in its crown (from £680, jumeirah.com).
8pm Supper at Kingfisher in the port is a fish-lover’s delight. Set back from the main drag and slightly elevated, it’s the perfect spot for a romantic start to the weekend. The grilled whole fish of the day is a must (kingfishersoller.com).
SATURDAY
8am Breakfast is plentiful, with an abundance of plump fruit and freshly squeezed juice made with oranges from the surrounding groves. The 360-degree views across the turquoise Med and the Tramuntana mountains are stunning.
9.30am We climb aboard the vintage tram to Sóller town (take a fan as it’s HOT in summer, even in early morning). For some culture, head to Can Prunera (canprunera.com), an art nouveau villa with works by Picasso, Miró and Matisse.
11am A jaunt around the old town, with its bougie shops, takes us to Plaza de la Constitución, the bustling main square, where we enjoy a kalimotxo (red wine and cola) before seeking shade in the splendid Sant Bartomeu church (above).
2pm We catch the tram back to the port and opt for a leisurely lunch of ice-cold cava, grilled octopus and pulled-pork tacos with spicy pineapple at Noname, watching superyachts bob in the harbour (nonamerestaurant.es).
4pm A post-cava promenade takes us past the buzzy restaurants dotted along the port, ending with a dip in the sparkling sea. Next comes the steep walk back to the hotel to dry off – though don’t worry, a shuttle is also available.
8pm Cocktails at Jumeirah’s rooftop Sunset Lounge (open to non-hotel guests too) are suitably restorative. We plump for the signature Sóller Spritz (orangey, grapefruity, sparkly) accompanied by sea bass ceviche and sushi.
SUNDAY
9am We charter Jumeirah’s private yacht to take us round the island to Sa Foradada – an unusual rock formation with a restaurant famed for its woodfired paella. It’s highly sought after, so book ahead (restaurantesaforadada.com).
