Memphis Depay in spat with Corinthians over contract

Former Manchester United and Barcelona striker Memphis Depay has accused Corinthians of “unacceptable behaviour” after the club decided not to renew his contract.

The Netherlands international, who joined Corinthians on a two-year deal in 2024, said the Brazilian club had withdrawn a previously agreed contract extension.

He wrote on social media: “This renewal was explicitly agreed upon by the president as well as the sporting, legal and financial department. Some people decided however to breach this engagement.

“I didn’t want this situation and always respected the club throughout the process, but now I am forced to react strongly in order to preserve my interests.

“In the upcoming days I will speak publicly but rest assured that I will not leave this unacceptable behaviour unsanctioned.”

A club statement said that “taking on a new commitment of this magnitude would not be compatible with the financial balance we need to preserve to ensure the institution’s sustainability”, while admitting it was a “difficult decision”.

Chelsea confirm Filip Jorgensen loan deal

Chelsea have confirmed the season-long loan of keeper Filip Jorgensen to sister club Strasbourg, in yet another move between the two sides.

The Dane’s opportunities have been limited in his two years at Stamford Bridge.

A club statement read: “Jorgensen was a key member of the Chelsea side that lifted the UEFA Conference League in May 2025, starting all but one game in the competition. The Denmark international became a Club World Cup winner later that summer.

“Jorgensen featured 12 times last season across four different competitions, playing his part as we reached the semi-finals of both domestic cups.

“We look forward to supporting Filip throughout his time in France.”
