Dallas Fort-Worth Airport to install Muslim foot wash stations inside terminal bathrooms
Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is set to install Islamic foot washing stations inside its terminal bathrooms, officials say.
The project was officially registered by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation on July 31, and will reportedly be completed by the end of the year.
According to records of the project details, the ablution stations will be added to existing restrooms in Terminal D, in both the men’s and women’s restrooms.
The construction will cost an estimated $300,000, but the burden will not fall on taxpayers as the project is privately funded.
The washing stations will provide a dedicated space in the public airport bathrooms for Muslims to wash their feet before prayer, an Islamic tradition known as Wadu.
The project is also intended to prevent airport passengers from using regular sinks for the same purpose, which has led to complaints of unhygienic conditions and water on the floor.
The location of the washing basins in Terminal D is likely due to the terminal’s role handling many of the airport’s international flights.
Dallas-Fort Worth joins several other major US airports in installing the Wadu stations, also including Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport and Chicago O’Hare Airport.

The move comes after some have complained online that airport passengers had used regular bathroom sinks for foot washing before Islamic prayers
Some conservatives voiced concern over the project on social media, with commentator Natalie Winters saying on Real America’s Voice that she believed it was part of a ‘Sharia financing’ move across the country.
‘Sharia financing is coming to dozens of states, its already being rolled out in Sharia-compliant community centers,’ she said.
However, conservative activist Ryan Fournier came out to say he supported the move, per Fox News.
‘People are freaking out over foot-washing stations at DFW, but let’s look at the actual facts before jumping to conclusions. This isn’t about pushing an ideology—it’s basic airport management,’ Fournier wrote on social media.
‘Safety & Plumbing: People washing their feet in standard bathroom sinks creates soaked, slippery floors and breaks the counters. Low-level wudu basins keep the restrooms dry and safe for everyone.

He said outrage over the project was misplaced, as it was ‘just about keeping the bathrooms clean and preventing people from slipping on wet tiles. Plain and simple.’
