Tragic new details emerge after baby found dead in a Sydney rubbish bin
The body of a newborn boy found naked inside a garbage bin in Sydney’s west may have been left more than a day earlier, it has been revealed, as a desperate search for his mother continues.
Emergency services attended a unit block on Harrow Road, Auburn, on Monday morning after a resident made the grim discovery while taking out the rubbish.
The newborn was found naked inside a garbage-style plastic bag in one of the bins at the complex, located across the road from a school.
It’s believed the baby may have been inside the bin for up to 36 hours.
An investigation into when and how the baby boy died is now underway.
‘Examinations are to be undertaken,’ Detective Acting Superintendent Darren Sly told reporters.
‘It’s very traumatic for that particular lady who found that baby. It’s sad, it’s a horrific set of circumstances.’
Police have serious concerns for the welfare of the baby’s mother and urged her to seek urgent medical attention.

‘If there was to be any police action, that is not our priority whatsoever,’ Det Supt Sly said.
‘Our only priority at the moment is the welfare of that mother and ensuring that she does go immediately to a hospital.’
Detectives spent Monday door-knocking surrounding units and reviewing CCTV footage in the hope of finding more details about the baby’s mother.
A tent was set up to shield the confronting scenes from public view.
‘Officers are professional and do their jobs, but like anybody, they’re human,’ Det Supt Sly said.
‘We’re talking about a newborn baby here. You’re going to have feelings about it.’
The news has shocked the local community.
‘Because my kids go to the school right there, I called up the school trying to figure out if there’s something going on for the school and they just said, they don’t know what’s going on, they just have some police in their office,’ a shopkeeper told NewsWire.

‘I actually drove up there, tried to ask the police officer if everything’s OK, if there’s anything wrong with the school and they told me just keep moving along.’
Cumberland Mayor Ola Hamed urged the community to look after one another and to check in on those who may be struggling.
‘My thoughts are with those affected, particularly the mother and her family at what must be an unimaginably distressing time,’ she said.
‘It is important that the relevant authorities are given the space to undertake their investigations and establish the facts.’
