Sarah Jessica Parker reveals the biggest misconception fans have about her
Sarah Jessica Parker’s career has been defined by her role as Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City.
But after playing the fictional fashionista for nearly three decades, Parker has opened up about the number-one thing fans get wrong about her.
In a new Q&A with British Vogue, the 61-year-old actress was asked what the most common misconception is about her, to which she bluntly replied: ‘That I’m Carrie.’
Parker didn’t expound upon the differences between herself and Carrie in the rapid-fire interview.
However, she was game to make a suggestion when asked what Carrie’s Substack would be called, joking that it would be named: ‘I Couldn’t Help But Wonder.’
Parker entertained viewers as the New York City–based dating and sex columnist for 27 years across the original show, several movies and a sequel series, And Just Like That.

After starring on the original Sex And The City from 1998 to 2004, Parker and her costars led two movies: 2008’s Sex And The City and 2010’s Sex And The City 2.
More than a decade later, Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon returned – minus original main cast member Kim Cattrall – for And Just Like That, which aired for three seasons from 2021 through 2025.
‘Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all,’ Parker said in a statement after it was announced that the show would end with its third season.
‘I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her,’ Parker continued. ‘The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion.’
While Parker claimed an identity independent from Carrie, there is one thing they have in common: their love of fashion, specifically footwear.
Asked for the ‘one shoe’ she would pick ‘to live in,’ the Hollywood vet told Vogue: ‘If you’re making me choose one, I’d say the Vivienne Westwood DIY Roman sandals that go high up your ankle, from the spring/summer 2009 Gold Label collection.’
And elsewhere in the interview, she said her biggest achievement is her family with longtime husband Matthew Broderick, 64.
The stars married in 1997, and share son James, 23, and twin daughters Marion and Tabitha, 17.

She said: ‘I would share that [accomplishment] with my husband: the family we’ve created together.
‘My three children are good kids. We are happiest when we know we can be together, but sometimes I’m like, “I wish you’d given me that laundry sooner!”’
Parker joined the world in mourning Dolly Parton last week as the country music icon and humanitarian died at age 80.
She shared three photos of Parton on Instagram and wrote, ‘No!!!!!! never met @dollyparton but my gosh, did I love her.
‘I don’t think any of us had to know her to love her. One of the greatest this country ever produced. Legend. For real. Forever.
‘And always advocating for those she knew and understood needed a champion. What a loss. But aren’t we so lucky, so fortunate for the endless gifts she shared.’
She ended the tribute: ‘Godspeed and RIP. You will be terribly missed. Xxx, SJ.’
