Tim Curry’s Cause Of Death Revealed 1 Week After Passing

The cause of death of beloved British actor and performer Tim Curry has been revealed one week after his passing sent shockwaves across the world.

According to documents from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, obtained by PEOPLE, The Rocky Horror Picture Show star died following a battle with coronary artery disease.

The document also cited a history of stroke and kidney cancer as “other significant conditions” that contributed to his death, but were not the underlying cause of his passing.

PEOPLE also reported that the document noted that no operations were performed for his coronary artery disease, kidney cancer or history of stroke.

Curry — whose remarkable credits extend from the 1990s IT, where he starred as Pennywise, to Nigel Thornberry in both The Wild Thornberrys and Rugrats Go Wild — passed away peacefully in Toluca Lake on Tuesday, August 25 (US time).

Before then, the highly acclaimed actor suffered a stroke in 2012, which ultimately resulted in him pulling back from public life. Instead, he focused on voiceover projects.

At the 50th anniversary screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at LA’s Academy Museum in September 2025, Curry shared a health update, revealing he “Still can’t walk, which is why I’m in this silly chair, and that’s very limiting. So I won’t be singing and I won’t be dancing very soon. I still have real problems with my left leg”.

Following Curry’s death, many of his fellow artists and co-stars shared tributes, remembering him as a “sensational actor” and a “dear friend”.

“A truly gifted performer of stage and screen, his one eyebrow could say more than most actors’ entire bodies. I am grateful to have the rare gift of watching him work; he made you better just standing near him,” Rob Schneider, who starred alongside Curry in Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, penned on X.

“We had such a wonderful time working together on Annie. Nobody could play lovable villains better than he could. He was a dear friend. I was blessed to know him,” Carol Burnett, who worked with Curry on the iconic musical Annie, wrote on Instagram.
