Maya Jama’s makeover! How Traitors star, 32, transformed her looks to become called the ‘most beautiful girl on the planet’ – with ‘sexy’ fashion fits, £6,000 braces and £600 facials

She was once labelled ‘the most beautiful girl on planet earth’ by Stormzy, and now Maya Jama is the standout star of Celebrity Traitors, despite sharing the castle with titans of the industry who have decades-long careers.

The 32-year-old has had quite the year – presenting Love Island, a recurring role in hit Netflix series The Gentlemen, and now being picked as one of just two original traitors by Claudia Winkleman, alongside the Oscar-nominated actor Richard E Grant, 69.

Repeatedly described as the series ‘big dog’ by Richard Osman and Marina Hyde on The Rest is Entertainment podcast, the BBC show will only send her star flying higher.

Witty, intelligent and immensely likeable, Maya has a lot going for her. However, her jaw-dropping looks are a big part of why she’s so popular on-screen.

So what exactly are her secrets? Experts tell the Daily Mail exactly how the TV star perfected her signature style – a look that propelled her to the cover of British Vogue and won her major contracts with Dolce & Gabbana and Rimmel London.

Here we break down the three Fs of how Maya overhauled her image in the decade since hosting the BRITs red carpet aged 22, to cement her reputation as a household name.

Although Maya Jama has explicitly denied having ever undergone cosmetic surgery or ‘gone under the knife’, she has not specifically admitted or denied having dermal or lip fillers, nor commented on facial injections.

In the past, she has been known to tell critics online that her body and chest are her own, previously releasing a statement on her Instagram stories that read: ‘For those that are new here I have never had any surgery… my body and boobs are 100 per cent natural.’

However, she openly admits to enjoying non-invasive skin ‘tweakments’, regularly crediting her sculpted jawline and high-definition look to Shane Cooper’s radiofrequency facial treatments and lymphatic drainage massages.

To maintain a healthy glow, Maya visits the facialist, who also treats Laura Whitmore, Jessie J and Rochelle Humes.

In a previous interview, Shane revealed that she frequently gets his 90-minute bespoke Exclusive Face Treatment, costing £600, and another facial called Aqua Tight, costing £200.

Maya has posted about getting microneedling, which costs £382.50 with Shane, and she has radiofrequency ‘for collagen production’.

She also visits a fancy Chelsea dentist, who used £6,000 ‘invisible lingual braces’ to straighten her teeth.

Before presenting Comic Relief in 2024, Maya posted a video of herself sculpting her jaw in a bright green Huda Beauty Chin Lift Sculpting Sheet Mask, costing £8.

‘For those of you wondering how I prepare for my live shows. I look like a Who,’ Maya, who also donned under-eye masks, laughed on TikTok.

She previously told The Face: ‘My best kept beauty secret is putting my face in a bowl of ice because it de-puffs. Try it, you’ll thank me.’

Maya has also posted pictures of herself receiving muscle-toning micro-currents, which are designed to lift and define the face.

Omar Tillo, plastic surgeon at CREO Clinic, told the Daily Mail: ‘Although very subtle, when you compare Maya Jama’s appearance a few years ago to her more recent appearance on The Traitors, there are a few noticeable differences in the shape of her face, particularly around her jawline and cheeks.

‘Her jawline looks a little sharper and more defined now, and her lower face appears slightly slimmer. Her cheekbones also seem more prominent.

‘This could simply be down to weight fluctuations. Even a small amount of facial fat loss can make quite a difference to how the jawline and cheekbones look, especially in someone who already has naturally defined features.

‘There are also cosmetic treatments that can create a similar effect. For example, masseter Botox is sometimes used to slim the lower face by relaxing the muscles around the jaw. Over time, this can give the face a slightly narrower, more tapered appearance.

‘Buccal fat removal is another strong possibility as it can create a more hollowed, sculpted look beneath the cheekbones.’

This is a surgical treatment, which involves extracting the fat pads from the lower cheeks, to slim the face and enhance cheekbone and jawline definition.

Dr Tillo added: ‘The distinction between masseter Botox and buccal fat removal is that masseter Botox primarily affects the width of the lower face, whereas buccal fat removal reduces volume in the cheeks. They can both create a more sculpted appearance, but in quite different ways.

‘Buccal fat removal is also permanent, so it’s something surgeons need to approach carefully, particularly as facial volume naturally decreases with age.

‘Cheek filler could also be a factor. Adding a bit of volume around the cheekbones can make them look more prominent and give the face a more sculpted appearance.

‘It can also make the lower face look slightly slimmer and more defined by comparison, even though the filler itself isn’t actually changing the shape of the jawline.

‘I believe Maya may have had lip filler, too. Looking at before and after pictures side by side, there’s quite a noticeable difference in the fullness of her lips, particularly her upper lip, which appears significantly more voluminous and defined.

‘The overall shape of her pout also looks different. Her lips appear fuller and more projected, which is the kind of result we typically see with hyaluronic acid fillers.

‘Of course, it’s impossible to confirm this from photographs alone, but my suspicion would be that lip filler could be behind the change.’

Dr Tillo also thinks it’s possible Maya has had Botox in other areas of her face.

‘Her forehead and the area around her eyes appear very smooth in more recent photographs,’ he said.

‘Forehead Botox and injections around the outer corners of the eyes are among the most common treatments, used to soften expression lines and maintain a smoother appearance.

‘Another possibility worth discussing is a Botox brow lift, which can subtly elevate the outer eyebrows and create a more open, lifted appearance around the eyes.

‘However, I wouldn’t say there are particularly strong visual indicators of these treatments in Maya’s case. Her skin looks very smooth, but that alone isn’t enough to suggest she’s had Botox.’

Maya’s make-up artist is Letitia Sophia, who also works with Alesha Dixon, Jameela Jamil, Rochelle Humes and Winnie Harlow, although of course she wouldn’t have had her services in the castle.

THE FASHION

2026: According to experts, six years on, Maya isn't dressing to hide her curves, she dresses to celebrate them and looks comfortable in her body

Fashion expert and founder of Popsy Clothing, Cherish Reardon, told The Daily Mail: ‘Maya’s biggest secret is confidence. She looks comfortable in her body and that really comes across’

Maya works with stylist Rhea Francois, whose other clients include Rochelle Humes, Idris Elba’s wife Sabrina Dhowre and Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland.

‘We work so well together,’ Rhea previously told Vogue. ‘She’s fun, playful and sexy, which I love – and when she has an idea, I take it away to think of how best to execute it in a way that feels (like) her.

‘My job is about making sure Maya looks and feels her best, most authentic self.’

For the opening scene of the 2023 series of Love Island, Maya asked for a Marilyn-Monroe inspired outfit for her dramatic yacht entrance, and Rhea provided with a ‘sexy yet sophisticated’ white body-hugging dress by emerging designer George Trochopoulos, then 21.

Meanwhile on The Traitors, her wardrobe has already entered into the thousands, with Maya wearing a £2,570 Saint Laurent trench coat in the first episode, an £1,880 belted denim jacket in episode 4 and a giant Mongolian bolero in episode 2, costing £600 from AGRO Studio.

Fashion expert and co-founder of Popsy Clothing, Cherish Reardon, told the Daily Mail: ‘Maya’s biggest secret is confidence.

‘She looks comfortable in her body and that really comes across in the way she wears clothes.

‘Her green dress (on Friday’s episode of The Traitors) is a brilliant example of how she embraces her curves and isn’t afraid to make a statement.

‘It’s glamorous, striking and figure hugging and what makes it work so well is the confidence with which she wears it.

‘Green is a fantastic colour choice because it feels rich, bold and a little unexpected.

‘It has real impact without needing lots of extra embellishment and it’s perfect for The Traitors, where fashion is part of the drama.

‘Maya clearly isn’t afraid to stand out and that self assurance is a huge part of her style. I love it!

‘What she demonstrates so well is that dressing to flatter your figure isn’t about hiding parts of yourself or trying to change your shape.

‘It’s about understanding what makes you feel good and choosing clothes that celebrate your body.

‘A fitted silhouette can look incredibly elegant when the person wearing it feels comfortable and confident.

‘She also shows that you don’t have to cover up to look sophisticated.

‘It’s all about balance, knowing how to make a statement without overcomplicating the look and wearing an outfit because you love it, rather than because you’re following somebody else’s rules.

‘Maya takes risks, has fun with her style and seems genuinely comfortable in the spotlight. That confidence comes through in her outfits and the way she carries herself.

‘She isn’t dressing to hide her curves, she’s dressing to celebrate them! When you feel good in what you’re wearing, it changes the way you carry yourself and that is what makes an outfit truly memorable.

‘Maya is a great reminder that the most flattering thing you can wear is something that makes you feel fantastic.’

Cherish also praised Maya’s white suit jacket and skirt, both from Roberto Cavalli’s AW24 collection, where similar jackets cost around £2,000.

The expert described the look as a ‘masterclass in how tailoring can create a strong, elegant silhouette’.

She added: ‘Her wardrobe on The Traitors has been incredible throughout. I love how she moves between different styles while still looking completely like herself.

‘There’s a real sense of playfulness in her choices and she understands that fashion should be fun.

‘She’s not afraid to make an entrance and that’s what makes her such an exciting style personality to watch.’

Although Traitors was filmed over the late spring to early summer, the dreary Scottish weather means the cast were all wrapped up.

But when she presents Love Island, Maya showcases more of her figure.

Cherish said: ‘I think a great example from her wardrobe is the black Nensi Dojaka dress with its plunging neckline, cut-out detailing and thigh high slit (costing £1,633).

‘It’s a revealing look but done in a way that’s still fun with a delicate cut. She looks sophisticated.

‘She also wears a lot of halterneck styles, which draw the eye towards the shoulders and neckline to create a really lovely silhouette.

‘Cut-outs, thigh-high slits and open backs allow her to show skin without the whole outfit feeling exposed.

‘She doesn’t have to worry about a wardrobe malfunction, which is important, especially if you are on the television.

‘Maya often lets one or two details do the talking, which keeps the overall look polished.

‘She also experiments with different lengths, from playful minis to floor length gowns, but the common theme is that the clothes celebrate her and show her confidence.

‘Her white suit on The Traitors is a great contrast to the dresses too. It shows how a more structured silhouette can be just as lovely.

‘It’s fresh and the tailoring created definition and a strong, elegant shape. From thigh-high slit dresses to tailored suits, Maya shows why her style is so good.’
