Sergio Garcia exits LIV Golf and announces plans for next season

Sergio Garcia has confirmed plans to return to the DP World Tour, becoming the latest player to join the exodus from LIV Golf on Thursday.

The 46-year-old Spaniard had served as captain of the Fireballs GC team since leaving the PGA Tour for LIV Golf in 2022.

“Next season, I’ll be playing on the DP World Tour,” Garcia posted on social media. “This tour has been a huge part of my career from the very beginning, and I’m proud to call it home again. I’m also keeping my options open for a return to the PGA Tour. And probably the most exciting part for me is strengthening my personal relationships, both new and old.”

Garcia won the 2017 Masters and has accumulated 11 PGA Tour titles and 16 victories on the DP World Tour over his career.

He was a two-time winner in LIV Golf, taking titles in Spain in 2024 and Hong Kong in 2025. His top performance in the 2026 season was finishing runner-up in Virginia in May.

Earlier this autumn, Garcia requested a federal judge to terminate his deal with LIV Golf, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September.

LIV Golf hopes to persist into 2027 and beyond under a “LIV 2.0” business plan following the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s withdrawal of support.

Garcia is part of a growing list of players not returning to LIV Golf, including fellow countryman Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Ian Poulter, Louis Oosthuizen, Graeme McDowell, David Puig, Abraham Ancer, Adrian Meronk and Thomas Pieters.

In his post, Garcia addressed returning to the Masters in 2027 after losing his temper last year at Augusta, damaging a tee box and breaking his driver.

“There are some great tournaments around the world to play before Augusta next April, and I can’t wait to get back to the Masters,” Garcia wrote. “I left Augusta (this) year disappointed with myself and my actions, and I am ready to show what I’ve learned and where I am mentally. Augusta has given me some of the greatest moments of my life, and I’d love nothing more than to chase another green jacket at such a special place.”

The nine-time Ryder Cup player also expressed his goal to feature for the European team next year at Adare Manor in Ireland.

“It’s a big year ahead with the Ryder Cup, and I’m going to work my tail off for every chance I can get at more Majors and the biggest events in the game,” he wrote. “Another goal is to make that Ryder Cup team, and to be an asset to the guys in whatever capacity that may be.”
