Harry Kane ‘signs £400,000-a-week contract to become the highest-paid footballer in Europe’ as England’s captain commits to Bayern Munich and stays in Germany for three more years

Ballon d’Or winner Harry Kane has extended his contract at Bayern Munich until 2029.

According to reports in Germany, his bumper new deal takes his weekly wages to a staggering £400,000 – which is believed to be the highest base salary in Europe.

Kane scored 73 goals in 65 appearances for club and country last season, earning him the Ballon d’Or ahead of Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal at last week’s ceremony in London.

Meanwhile, the England captain has scored 156 goals in 161 outings since joining Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 for £86million.

Kane was entering the final six months of his deal at Bayern but any hope of returning to the Premier League to break Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record has been dashed, as he commits another three years to the German champions.

Kane had never lifted silverware before joining Bayern but has made up for it in the last two years, claiming two Bundesliga titles, the DFB Cup and two German Super Cups.

He has earned plenty of individual honours, too. Alongside the Ballon d’Or, Kane has been Bundesliga top goalscorer in both seasons and has twice won the Golden Shoe, which recognises Europe’s best striker. He was also crowned Germany’s best player last season.

For country, Kane led England to their best World Cup finish since 1966 this summer, as the Three Lions won bronze. Kane scored six goals in seven outings for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Signing his new deal, Kane said: ‘I feel right at home at FC Bayern. I love the club, the fans and the city of Munich.

‘We have a fantastic team and, in Vincent Kompany, a fantastic manager. It makes me very proud to be part of this club.

‘My whole family is very happy here. I was keen to stay. I’m now looking forward to the future and I want to win many more titles with this great club.’

Later this month, Kane is poised to become England’s record appearance holder when the Three Lions face Croatia and Spain in the Nations League. He currently shares the record with Peter Shilton, with the pair capped 125 times.

Kane is already England’s all-time leading goalscorer, having netted 91 times – 38 more than second-placed Wayne Rooney.
