A man found $30 on the floor of a Walmart. Police launched a manhunt to bring him to justice

A man who seemingly thought he lucked out after finding $30 on the ground at a Georgia Walmart instead became the subject of a police manhunt after pocketing the cash.

Cops in Albany, a city in southwest Georgia, were seeking public assistance to identify the man who picked up the $30 bill off the ground and kept it instead of turning it in.

“An individual dropped $30.00 on the ground while shopping. This individual picked up the money and did not turn it in to the employees,” the Albany Police Department wrote in a Facebook post on August 18, along with a picture of the alleged suspect walking through the store.

Police asked anyone with information that could lead to the man’s identification to call their tipline.

Social media users had a field day making fun of the police department’s all-out effort to bring justice to the shopper.

“Imagine finding $30 and thinking it is your lucky day, only to go home and load up Facebook to find your photo on the police departments page asking for assistance identifying you,” one Facebook user wrote.

“Whatever happened to finders keepers,” another chimed in.

“This is a joke, right?” another user joked.

Others were more critical of the police department for the post.

“Not to be critical of the APD and how they use their resources but here I am,” one person wrote.

“Posting his picture over $30? Lol,” another person quipped.

Another user added: “I thought this was satire when I came across the story.”

In an update to the post, police said that the man involved “returned the money to the victim.”

“The victim initially wished to pursue charges, but after the money was returned, advised that they no longer wished to press charges. No charges will be filed,” police said.
