Anti-aging and immunity supplements recalled nationwide after testing reveals they’re contaminated with toxins… ‘risk of shock and death’

A nationwide recall has been issued for several wellness and immunity supplements that testing revealed have elevated levels of toxins.

Texas-based Centric Compounding is voluntarily recalling six lots of Glutathione, Myer’s Cocktail and Tri-Immune Boost injectable vials because they have been found to be compounded with a glutathione active pharmaceutical ingredient containing elevated endotoxin levels. 

Endotoxins are highly toxic molecules that can cause sepsis, a deadly overreaction of the immune system that causes the body to attack its own organs. 

In the recall statement, the FDA said: ‘There is reasonable probability that injectable products with elevated endotoxin levels could cause significant medical events including fevers, hypotension, inflammatory reactions, anaphylactic shock and death.’

So far, the agency said, Centric Compounding has received nine reports of fever, chills, chest pain, nausea, vomiting, headache and malaise – a generalized feeling of discomfort and illness presenting with fatigue, body aches and brain fog. 

The products were distributed nationwide to patients via home delivery and delivery to prescribers. 

The recall applies to Glutathione 200mg/ml 30mL vial with expiration dates of August 7 and 22 and September 25, 2026; Myer’s Cocktail 30mL vial with expiration dates of August 16 and September 4, 2026; and Tri-Immune Boost 30mL vial with an expiration date of August 30, 2026. 

The FDA notes the products are ‘used to support immunity, fatigue and general wellness.’

Glutathione is produced naturally in the body and acts as an antioxidant. Glutathione injections are often used to help fight cell damage, support the immune system and clear toxins from the liver. 

Injectable glutathione is often marketed in wellness clinics and med spas for a range of off-label uses, including skin lightening, anti-aging, detoxification, and immune support.

Because oral glutathione is poorly absorbed, injections are promoted as a more effective way to reach therapeutic levels.

However, the FDA has not reviewed or approved any injectable glutathione product for safety or effectiveness for these purposes.

The evidence base for these uses remains thin, and medical organizations have cautioned against off-label use because of limited clinical evidence and significant health risks.

Myer’s Cocktail is a blend of vitamins and minerals administered intravenously – though experts say many of the claimed benefits are limited.

Lastly, Tri-Immune boost contains vitamin C, glutathione and zinc sulfate for supposed immune support.  

Meanwhile, endotoxins are toxic molecules found in bacteria such as E.coli and Salmonella.

They are not the bacteria themselves, meaning a product can pass a sterility test and still be dangerous. Heat does not destroy them.

The risk depends on how the product enters the body. Swallowing endotoxins is generally harmless, but injecting them into the bloodstream triggers an immediate and aggressive immune response. Reactions can begin within minutes.

The FDA warns that injectable products with elevated endotoxin levels can cause fevers, hypotension, inflammatory reactions, anaphylactic shock, and death.

Symptoms typically appear within minutes to hours and include fever, shaking chills, severe headache, nausea, vomiting, body aches and rapid heartbeat.

Seek emergency care for difficulty breathing, throat or facial swelling, chest pain, fainting, confusion, a rapidly spreading rash, or a sudden fever above 102 degrees F.

Centric Compounding is notifying its distributors and customers of the recall via email and is arranging for replacement of all of the recalled products. 

Anyone with the products should immediately stop using them and throw them away, according to the FDA.
