Aussie woman’s partner who has mega-rich socialite parents is slammed after he buys first class tickets to Europe and leaves her in economy: ‘My spoilt little boyfriend’

Influencer Sam Guggenheimer’s nepo baby boyfriend has been slammed for splashing on a first-class ticket to Europe, while leaving his girlfriend in cattle class.

Earlier this year, Sam surprised her followers by going public with Ryan Maloney – an up-and-coming DJ who is the son of wealthy eastern suburbs socialite Di Maloney and her bar tzar ex-husband Kim Maloney.

While the couple have kept their romance largely out of the public eye, Sam did upload a TikTok video on Friday documenting the couple’s flight from Sydney to London. 

Her narration over the footage quickly raised eyebrows as she described how Ryan had booked a first class ticket for himself, while she had to buy an economy ticket. 

The night before the flight, Sam decided to upgrade her ticket but was still seated separately to Ryan. 

‘My spoiled little boyfriend had first class tickets, so I was raw-dogging it,’ Sam said.  

The brunette went on to complain about her experience in first class, describing the coffee as tasting like ‘petrol’. 

‘I also didn’t sleep this whole flight,’ she said, explaining that she was feeling ‘so overwhelmed and so excited’ that she went ‘stir crazy’ in her seat. 

Prior to the trip, Sam had uploaded another TikTok video in which she explained how Ryan had to beg her to join him for six weeks in Europe. 

Sam explained that she initially turned down the request because she didn’t have enough money and ‘really needed to work on herself’, but eventually Ryan forced her to go. 

Some of Sam’s fans weren’t too impressed by Ryan’s actions, with one asking why he didn’t get her a ticket in first class so she could join him.

Another user added: ‘Why wouldn’t your boyfriend pay for your upgrade?’

The saga caught the attention of pop culture podcast Outspoken, with hosts Amy, Sophie and Kate Taeuber branding Ryan’s actions as a ‘massive red flag’. 

‘I mean, this guy has had to apparently convince her to come with him on this trip to Europe. Then he decides to not even sit with her? Like, why couldn’t he just get economy tickets and sit together?’ one host said. 

‘That’s part of the trip, it’s the bonding. You know, you sit on the flight and chat.’ 

Later, another host questioned whether Sam’s situation proved that ‘chivalry is dead’. 

‘I mean, if he’s got the money to afford first class, why doesn’t he do the decent thing and say, ‘Hey, here’s a surprise for you. I’m going to take your crap ticket and you can sit up here.’ 

‘I mean, let’s be clear, he doesn’t have the money, his parents have the money,’ another host pointed out. 

Indeed, Ryan’s mother Di – a prominent eastern suburbs socialite – is known for splashing her cash on extravagant parties at her Point Piper mansion.

Back in 2017, Di made headlines when she threw a mammoth party in the hopes that Justin Bieber would attend – however the pop star failed to make an appearance.

Instead, the Sorry hitmaker was reported to have Skyped into the exclusive bash from his lush Sydney suite.
