Bride-to-be brutally uninvites her parents from her wedding – but here’s why everyone’s on HER side

A bride-to-be has uninvited her own parents from her wedding day. Perhaps surprisingly, many agreed it was the right call.

In the lead-up to her big day, the woman shared a lengthy rant detailing all the issues she had with her mum and dad.

‘Good riddance, I am so thankful this damn nightmare is over! My parents are finally uninvited to my wedding… and I am so relieved,’ she said in a Reddit thread.

‘From start to finish my parents have tried doing everything in their power to make me as miserable as possible.’

The woman went on to explain that the first troublesome instance involved the future bride and groom sharing their wishes to get married abroad.

However, the bride’s mother openly disagreed, saying she believed ‘the whole family should be there’ – even though the daughter didn’t have intentions of inviting people she hadn’t seen in over 15 years.

But the major issue stemmed back to the way her parents, and particularly her father, reacted to the proposal.

Initially, the woman said her dad took personal issue with the fact the couple had decided to get married before asking for his blessing.

Then, when she and her partner did finally make the long trek to visit the father in person and officially ask for his blessing – he refused to give them a positive answer.

‘During the entire interaction my father asked completely stupid and irrelevant questions that had nothing to do with our relationship,’ she recounted.

‘I won’t go into the full spiel, but I’ll give you this: my father was so delusional that he had the gall to ask my fiancé: “If my daughter asks you to lie to me, would you?”‘

‘My fiancé responded, “Well, I’m going to stand by my wife, so yes, I would.” My father called him deceitful, started yelling, and threw a whole tantrum in a public restaurant.

‘My partner and I have never been so infuriated in our lives. My father wasted our time and money over a blessing he was crying about in the first place.

‘After this, I was done with this whole circus of a family. I completely cut off BOTH of my parents because I refuse to have people in my life who can’t get a grip.’

Despite the disappointing reactions from her own family members, the woman said there was a silver lining.

‘Thankfully revenge is a dish best served cold!’ she hinted. ‘Luckily for me, narcissists hate being embarrassed, especially by elders in the family. My great aunt, who is my absolute heart, ripped them a NEW ONE.’

The woman explained that her great aunt wouldn’t tolerate a word about her daughter’s fiancé being supposedly ‘disrespectful’.

‘My aunt immediately wanted to know what “question” my dad asked. When my mum told her, she said, “What kind of a f****** question is that? Of course that was going to be his answer! I don’t know a single ADULT who would’ve answered differently!”‘

‘My mum tried to double down and say my aunt wasn’t being fair.

‘And my aunt responded, “What do you mean? That is fair. You had that man go all the way down there only to set him up with bulls*** questions.”‘

‘My mum was so stunned she made up an excuse and quickly hung up. It was glorious.

‘It got even better because, since things went so terribly with my great aunt, I haven’t heard a peep from any of my family. My parents got checked so badly they had been too embarrassed to tell anyone else.’

The woman concluded that while she was saddened by the actions of her biological parents, she had instead ‘gained two incredible in-laws who mean the world to me.’

‘They cheer for me so loudly that I don’t even notice who’s missing in the stands,’ she poetically added.

After what had happened, the woman said she was half expecting her future in-laws might encourage her to make amends with her parents. But to her surprise, they did the opposite.

‘Instead, they sent a long message saying how much they love both of us and how proud they are of me. They told me not to worry about my parents because they already see me as the daughter they never had,’ she said.

‘They even said they would foot the bill for our entire wedding, and I just couldn’t be happier with my future and my new family.’

She concluded the lengthy message: ‘So yes, while it was disappointing at first, this experience has still been absolutely wonderful. I am now finally engaged to the love of my life.

‘Cutting off my parents was the best decision I have ever made. I feel like I’m finally free. I know I am supposed to feel empty, but I don’t. All I feel is loved.’

She added before signing off: ‘PS: If you are thinking of uninviting your Narc family this is your sign to do it, as fast as you possibly can!’

The reaction to the online post shared to a ‘wedding drama’ Reddit thread was overwhelmingly in the woman’s favour.

‘Good for you! Sometimes, unfortunately, children are forced to be the adult and stand up for themselves against toxic people they thought were genuine,’ one said.

‘Embrace your fiancé for being honest, his family for supporting you in this difficult time, and the Aunt as she’s obviously got your back!’

‘I’m so happy for you! Your wedding will be so much more peaceful without the aggravation they would cause,’ another agreed.

A number of replies even suggested the woman should have her supportive great aunt walk her down the aisle.

But several replies cautioned that the woman ‘wasn’t out of the woods yet’, and that there was still the possibility of there being more family drama before the big day.

Many suggested she take extra precautions to ensure the details of her wedding day arrangements are private.

‘Happy to hear that you’re protecting the peace for yourself and your fiancé,’ one said.

‘Reminder: Passwords on all wedding venues and security at the wedding to ensure that your parents don’t sabotage anything.’

But the overall sentiment was that the bride had made the difficult decision for the sake of her own future happiness.

‘Truly happy for your newfound family,’ one person said.

‘Enjoy your time away from your toxic parents. The best revenge is living a happy life.’
