Channel 4’s Virgin Island inundated with applications for new series after controversial show becomes a hit

Channel 4’s controversial reality TV show Virgin Island has been flooded with applications for its second season.
The series saw a group of adult virgins, aged 22 to 30, visit a tropical island in a bid to pop their cherries.
Under the guidance of trained intimacy and sex coaches, they slowly but surely began to explore their bodies and had the opportunity at the end of the programme to have sex with a professional.
An insider told The Sun: ‘When Virgin Island was first advertised last year, nobody was entirely sure what it was or even if it was some kind of joke.
‘But seeing what it entailed drastically boosted the numbers wanting to be on it.
‘It proved particularly popular with young people.’

However, while the coaches and experts on the island did their best to help the sexual novices, only one of them was deemed ready to lose his virginity – Dave.
He has since gone on to find love in the real world a year on from filming and described it as ‘a confidence-boosting TV show’.
Dave said of his new girlfriend: ‘She watched four episodes, but it’s getting a bit much. You don’t want to see your partner with someone else, even if it was a year ago.’
However, the lessons learned by the other participants on the shocking and at times heartwarming show were not in vain and several have gone on to have sex since filming wrapped.
The series was the biggest streaming hit across scripted and unscripted shows this year for Channel 4.
The controversial show, which was soon commissioned for a second season, attracted a whopping 1.4million viewers per episode on average.
TV boss Jonah Weston said: ‘This is a live issue among young people, and from the brave cast to our wonderful experts I don’t think I’ve ever worked on anything quite so bold, warm and well-intentioned.
‘Watch out for season 2 which will be bigger and bolder than ever!’

Successful contestant Dave has urged any other adults thinking about participating to take the leap.
He said: ‘I had an amazing time on the Island, and I’m truly thankful for the time I spent there.
‘Anyone who has watched the show will have seen how much my confidence grew over the course of the series, and I can’t speak highly enough of the experts and production team for making us feel so safe and secure.
‘I was lucky enough to achieve the ultimate aim of the series whilst on the Island, and I can’t wait to see the next group of participants go on the same journey – I would wholly encourage anyone with enough courage and resilience to apply, it’s completely changed my life.’
The new series, which will be filmed this year, is scheduled to hit screens in 2027.
