Deputy Foreign Minister: Egypt is keen to send medical convoys to strengthen relations with African countries

Ambassador Abu Bakr Hafni Mahmoud, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated on behalf of Dr. Badr Abdel Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, at the first meeting of health ministers of the Group of Eight developing countries, which Cairo recently hosted. This meeting was chaired by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development Affairs and Minister of Health and Population, with the participation of ministers and officials in the health ministries of the member states of the group.

Ambassador Abu Bakr Hafni Mahmoud began his speech by noting that this meeting represents one of the main outcomes of the summit of the Group of Eight developing countries. Which was hosted by Cairo in December 2024, under the chairmanship of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. This summit recognized the importance of health cooperation as a strategic priority for the Group of Eight developing countries and called for the establishment of permanent health cooperation. Egypt, as the current president of the group, seeks to transform this vision into a tangible reality with the aim of launching the foundations of a road map that guides the countries of the organization towards continued coordination, exchange of experiences and solidarity, enabling them to respond more effectively to health crises, and to benefit from the human resources and expertise that those countries have. Countries.

 

He also reviewed the successes achieved by the health and pharmaceutical system in Egypt, through international recognition, through the Egyptian Medicine Authority obtaining the third maturity level (ML3), which qualifies it to provide technical support and transfer regulatory expertise to partner countries.

 

Noting that this achievement reflects Egypt’s commitment to applying the highest international regulatory standards in the field of the pharmaceutical industry, and contributes to strengthening Egypt’s competitive position. globally in this vital sector, which opens new horizons for Egyptian pharmaceutical exports, attracts foreign investments, and supports the state’s strategy in localizing the pharmaceutical industry. Health".

 

The ministerial meeting approved the establishment of a G8 health working group, which serves as a permanent technical mechanism within the framework of the G8 work program for health and social protection, with the aim of coordinating substantive areas of cooperation, following up on ministerial commitments, facilitating the establishment of joint projects, exchanging knowledge, and promoting political harmonization among member states.
