Deputy Minister of Health at the International Women Doctors Conference: Women’s health and empowerment are the basis of sustainable development

Dr. Abla Alfi, Deputy Minister of Health and Population and Supervisor of the National Population Council, participated in the opening session of the 33rd Conference of the International Physician Women’s Association (MWIA), held under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and Population and the National Council for Women.
Dr. Alfi expressed her happiness at participating in this event, which combines science, leadership and humanity, stressing that honoring The doctor reflects an appreciation for her dual role in healing and societal change.
She stressed that women’s health and empowerment constitute the cornerstone of sustainable development, pointing to the pioneering role of Egyptian female doctors throughout history, such as Helena Cedros and Nazir, who combined medicine and the struggle for human rights.
The Deputy Minister explained that the rise in rates Caesarean sections without medical justification represent a major challenge, stressing the importance of encouraging natural birth to enhance the “golden hour.” Which supports breastfeeding and maternal and child health, and reviewed the Ministry’s efforts to spread awareness and reduce the use of caesarean sections except when necessary.
Dr. Al-Alfi also discussed national initiatives to empower women, such as the “Egyptian Women’s Health” initiative, which provided early screening and free treatment services to millions of women, and the “Thousand Days” initiative. Golden Gold, which focuses on mother and child care from pregnancy until the first two years, and stressed that empowering women in health enhances human capital and contributes to building healthier and more productive generations.
She praised the role of Egyptian female doctors in leading health care and policy making, stressing the Ministry’s commitment to supporting their participation in health programs and leading the health system, and expressed her pride in the Egyptian Women Doctors Association. For her role in empowering female doctors professionally and humanely.
In a global context, she stressed the need for international cooperation to confront women’s health challenges, such as gender-based violence, malnutrition, maternal mortality, and chronic diseases, calling for a comprehensive vision that combines health policies, education, and investment.
Dr. Al-Alfi concluded her speech by emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to working with The International Federation of Women Physicians and international partners to achieve health equity for women, thanking the conference organizers and every female doctor who dedicates her life to serving humanity.
