Determined DoorDash driver finishes her delivery despite being hit by a car trying to escape police
A Texan DoorDash driver finished her delivery despite being hit by a car which was trying to escape from Houston police officers, according to a report.
Miracle Herron, 23, said she was hit by the car last week after stepping out of her own vehicle to drop off a sandwich from a local Subway. Herron, who normally works at a call center, had turned to DoorDash to help make ends meet.
“I heard, like, car screeching. I heard some wheels screeching, and I heard police sirens,” she told ABC13. However, she believed that the car chase was unfolding on a main road.
Court records obtained by ABC7 stated that officers from the Houston Police Department were in pursuit of 34-year-old Torrance Whitaker, who was wanted for burglary. Whitaker was fleeing after police attempted to perform a traffic stop.
Footage of the incident was captured by resident Lily Portillo’s home security system.
In the video, a grey vehicle can be seen barrelling towards Herron before slamming into her.
Herron stumbles to the side, while the delivery items that she holds in her hands crash to the floor.
Meanwhile, a man – now identified as Whitaker – bolts from his vehicle, just as a police vehicle races into the view of the camera. Then, Herron walks over to the delivery address and waits at the door.
A camera owned by another resident, Steve Jones, recorded footage of Whitaker attempting to jump his fence.
“He went through two more yards, and came out two more houses down the front yard bushes, and the dog brought him out,” Jones told ABC7. “And I thought it was Live PD!”
Whitaker has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with the incident, according to court records obtained by the outlet.
Herron told ABC13 that she wanted to make sure that the person who had ordered the delivery received their food.
“I didn’t want them to think I stole it,” she said. “I was just trying to get my bills paid.”
“I do feel like it was a miracle that I made it out of that situation alive and that I didn’t have any, like, broken bones or anything,” Herron noted.
