Drunk woman who nearly crushed man’s head after flipping her car outside pub avoids prison

A drunk woman who narrowly avoided crushing a man’s head after flipping her car outside a pub has been spared jail.

Sharon Gall, 32, was caught on camera reversing her red Volkswagen Golf at speed outside the Cock Inn in Bartley Green, Birmingham, and smashing into another car, causing it to overturn in the early hours of February 17, 2024.

Birmingham Crown Court heard last week that the crash happened after Gall, from Northfield, was involved in an altercation outside the pub after being ordered to leave.

Video footage shows a group of people surrounding her car moments before she suddenly shot backwards in reverse.

In the heart-stopping footage, a man standing nearby was sent sprawling into the road as Gall’s car flipped over, missing his head by inches.

Despite the terrifying near-miss, the court heard the man she almost crushed was not injured.

Police swooped and arrested Gall, who is currently employed, and took her to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where a sample of her blood was analysed.

Tests revealed she had 171 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, more than double the legal limit of 80 milligrammes.

Another woman was also taken to hospital although her injuries were not believed to be life-changing, West Midlands Police said at the time. 

Gall admitted to the court dangerous driving and drink-driving.

She was sentenced to 15 months in jail, suspended for two years, and was banned from driving for 18 months.

Gall was also ordered to complete 25 days of rehabilitation activity and serve a 90-day alcohol abstinence period.
