Emma Raducanu v Janice Tjen live: US Open 2025 latest scores, results and updates from Flushing Meadows

BREAK! *Emma Raducanu 6-2, 2-0 Janice Tjen

Quick as a flash Raducanu rattles through another businesslike hold, and earns another chance to break Tjen.

An over-eager forehand drifts wide, but she has another chance at 30-40 up.

She goes for something slightly different, moving forward, and Tjen punishes her with a ball into acres of open space.

Quick break while Raducanu adjusts her sock…

Advantage Britain as she pins Tjen deep behind the baseline and the qualifier clips the net post, with the ball going against her.

Oh dear, a double fault gifts Raducanu the break.

Novak Djokovic in action

Let’s take a quick look around the other matches at Flushing Meadows…

Seventh seed Novak Djokovic has just walked out onto Arthur Ashe, where he faces American Zachary Svajda.

10th seed Emma Navarro leads compatriot Caty McNally 4-2, while three-time US Open finalist Victoria Azarenka is 0-3 down against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who was responsible for Sonay Kartal’s Wimbledon exit.

GAME AND FIRST SET! *Emma Raducanu 6-2 Janice Tjen

Tjen is not letting her head drop but Raducanu has been pretty dominant from the baseline so far.

But moving forward has served Tjen well and she opts for that strategy again, with a fine forehand from the middle of the court.

Raducanu nods to her box as she plays a brilliantly constructed point, mixing in backhands slices with some punishing shots before whipping in the ball behind Tjen.

Another fine return and the Brit has two set points…

And a fabulous winner kissing the line secures it!

Raducanu redirects Tjen nicely, using the full width of the court.

Her serve has been firing fabulously so far and she wraps up a hold to love in double-quick time, Tjen swinging for a return but missing the ball entirely.

Tjen frequently came out on top at the net against Veronika Kudermetova and she ventures forward again now, wisely leaving a high ball by Raducanu to drift long.

A backhand slice by the Brit also goes long, before Tjen hits the first double fault of the match.

But another vicious topspin forehand seals a comfortable hold for the Indonesian.

Emma Raducanu 4-1 Janice Tjen*

Raducanu targets the backhand wing and draws the error.

But she gets unlucky with a net cord in the longest rally of the match so far, as the ball clips the tape, seems to waver for a moment, before bouncing over on her side.

Tjen overcooks another couple of returns and it’s another stress-free hold for the British No 1.

At every possible chance Tjen is running around the ball to get that heavy forehand into play. Raducanu gets her on the run and draws an error from that side, however, then dominates the next point to slam down a fine forehand into the open court for 0-30.

Tjen responds with a couple of strong serves and her first ace to move 40-30 up, and recovers well to get a hold on the board. She doesn’t look remotely daunted by the occasion at all.

And another fine serve gets her out of trouble entirely.

Raducanu fist pumps towards her box as she throws down another ace.

But Tjen is right in this one and another couple of strong forehands force Raducanu into errors, and the 23-year-old has a break point chance of her own at 15-40.

Tjen overcooks a return on a wide serve for 30-40, and the Brit defends well to force another error for deuce.

Great depth from Raducanu but Tjen moves forward effortlessly and draws her into the net. Another chance to break back…

“Come on!” shouts Raducanu as she forces Tjen out wide again and into the tape.

BREAK! *Emma Raducanu 2-0 Janice Tjen

Raducanu puts too much heft on a second serve return. Tjen is an opponent she’s unlikely to know very well, and at the moment it feels like both are just feeling their way into this game.

The Indonesian qualifier is yet to hit a first serve but has got a real heavy forehand.

Raducanu responds with some fierce striking of her own and lasers a fine forehand into the corner to earn an early break point.

And she takes it as Tjen nets!
