Eva Mendes calls out ‘fake’ AI photo of Ryan Gosling and Johnny Depp at San Diego Comic-Con

Eva Mendes called out an Instagram account that shared an AI-generated picture of Ryan Gosling and Johnny Depp mingling at 2026 San Diego Comic-Con. 

The 52-year-old actress, whose longtime partner was revealed to have been cast in the MCU’s new Ghost Rider film, slammed the ‘fake’ image in the comment section of a post uploaded by the account @opavisions over the past weekend. 

Both Gosling and Depp had made appearances at the star-studded convention last week, but on different days. 

The AI-generated snap showed the two stars walking alongside each other, with Depp dressed as Ebenezer Scrooge from his upcoming project Ebenezer. 

Another individual by the name of Slopaxo was also partially in the image and tagged. 

However, Mendes jumped to the comment section to pen: ‘FAKE. Please let People know when you’re putting out AI.’ 

The account responded to the Hollywood star and wrote: ‘@evamendes DISCLAIMER: THIS WAS AI***.

‘Thank you for saying something. You’re right, and I’ll be more clear going forward,’ the message continued before the account applauded both Mendes and Gosling’s work over the years. 

The caption had also read, ‘Some of our favorite moments from Comic-Con weren’t on stage – they were watching Ryan Gosling, Johnny Depp, and @slopaxo moving through the crowds like the unlikeliest best-friend trio.

‘Between candid walks, conversations with fans, and spontaneous stops, they quietly became one of the weekend’s most memorable sights.’ 

However, the comments have since been turned off on the post with the caption simply changed to, ‘AI.’ 

The Instagram account also sent an apology to Mendes in a separate comment with, ‘Ok we will sorry,’ per Entertainment Weekly. 

Another comment from @opavisions included, ‘Wow. I’m a big fan I love your movies.’ 

Daily Mail has reached out to reps for Mendes for comment, but has yet to hear back.

Depp looked nearly unrecognizable as he made a surprise appearance last week on Thursday during Comic-Con in San Diego. 

He stepped out dressed as his character Ebenezer Scrooge to promote the upcoming movie Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, which hits theaters on November 13.

A mock storefront was built in the middle of the iconic Gaslamp district in San Diego and was covered in fake snow for the event.

A large crowd had gathered at the small set before Depp emerged from a door as carolers sang beloved Christmas songs. 

Depp maintained a grouchy demeanor as he stayed in character, despite fans sending love to the star during the special moment, per a video shared by Deadline.

The star continued to don the costume as he stepped on the stage during Collider’s Directors on Directing panel during Comic-Con. 

A source shared with the Daily Mail that Depp received an ‘incredible reception’ from the Comic-Con crowd and that some fans in the front row were ‘dressed up’ as some of the actor’s ‘most iconic characters.’

And just days later on Saturday, Gosling stepped onto the Comic-Con stage as it was revealed that the actor will portray Ghost Rider in an upcoming Marvel project. 

Shawn Levy is set to step behind the camera as director on the film, which will hit theaters later in 2028, per Variety. 

Gosling is keeping busy and has also been cast in Star Wars: Starfighter which will premiere on May 28, 2027, which Levy also directed. 

‘Gosling is the absolute s***. I say that with tremendous respect,’ the filmmaker shared to the crowd during a panel at Comic-Con alongside the actor and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. 

‘We spent a lot of time last year making Starfighter, and the opportunity as Ryan started talking about this character, I was like, “Bro, let’s ride.” We’ll see you in 2028!’

Mendes notably has a connection to the forthcoming Ghost Rider movie.

The actress notably portrayed the role of Roxanne Simpson in the 2007 Ghost Rider film starring Nicolas Cage. 

She played Cage’s love interest in the film, which went on to rake in $229 million in the box office on a budget of around $110 million. 

Mendes also recently offered support to Gosling’s casting in the new Ghost Rider project. 

The actress, who was first romantically linked to the actor in 2011, shared a fan-edited clip to her Instagram page over the past weekend. 

The video included the opening scene from Mendes and Gosling’s movie The Place Beyond The Pines (2011). 

Text over the reel read: ‘From this intro only i thought ryan gosling can be a perfect casting for ghost rider role.’ 

In the caption of the post, Mendes referred to her character from the 2007 movie and wrote, ‘Love, Roxy.’
