Female therapist, 26, groomed underage boy at juvenile hall then raped him for three months after he was freed, cops say

A juvenile hall therapist groomed and sexually assaulted an underage boy she was assigned to help, police said.

Sofia Drotts, 26, is facing a slew of felony charges after allegedly grooming the youngster, 17, while he was inside Contra Costa County juvenile hall, in California. 

Prosecutors in the state claimed that Drotts was assigned to work with one boy, known only as John Doe, in her role as a Behavioral Health Clinician. 

According to the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office, the two then engaged in a sexual relationship after he was released between April and July of this year. 

An investigation was launched after Concord Police Department said they received a tip from a supervisor in the probation department and arrested Drotts on July 14.

Drotts is now facing a number of felony charges including two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse and two counts of oral copulation of a person under 18. 

Under current state laws, the age of consent in California 18 years of age.  

Other charges include a charge of sexual penetration by a foreign object, two of sending harmful matter to a minor, and another of possessing child pornography.

In a statement, the DA’s office said: ‘Contra Costa Superior Court will set an arraignment date for Drotts, where she will hear the charges against her. 

‘If she enters a plea of not guilty, the next phase is to set a preliminary hearing of the evidence before the case can proceed to a trial.’

Concord Police added: ‘The Concord Police Department has arrested 26-year-old female Sofia Ann-Buitron Drotts following an investigation into allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct involving a 17-year old juvenile male.

‘The investigation began after the Concord Police Department received information from the Contra Costa County Probation Department regarding concerns that a female temporary employee at Contra Costa County Health had engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with the juvenile male in Concord. 

‘Detectives conducted an investigation and identified evidence supporting the allegations.

‘Based on the findings of the investigation, the suspect was arrested pursuant to a Ramey warrant and booked on related charges.

‘The investigation remains ongoing and we are not releasing any additional information at this time.’
