Heartbreaking reason new mum had pulled over before her newborn baby was killed in a horror M1 Gaven Gold Coast car crash – as she reveals her gut-wrenching last photograph of the 35-day old tot

A young mother whose five-week-old baby boy was killed in a horror car crash had pulled over to feed her newborn when their vehicle was struck by a ute.

Divine Caneo, 24, was parked on the northbound side of the M1, near the Smith Street ramp in Gaven, on the Gold Coast, when a grey Toyota Hilux ploughed into her Jeep Cherokee at 2.50am on Sunday.

Her newborn son, Jack Riordan, was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital but died shortly after arrival.

Ms Caneo was taken to the same hospital in a serious condition.

The Daily Mail understands Jack was the only child of Ms Caneo and her partner, Callum Riordan.

On Monday, the new mother penned a social media tribute to her baby son whose life was tragically cut short.

‘You will always be in our hearts my love,’ she said.

‘Fly high my little man.’

Ms Caneo’s social media accounts are filled with pictures documenting her life as a new mother as she doted on her little boy.

Just days before the crash, Ms Caneo shared a photo of Jack next to cupcakes forming the shape of a number 1 to mark his first month of life, alongside the caption ‘Uno’.

Responding to the post, a relative gushed that it looked like the little boy was already smiling.

A family friend said Ms Caneo had pulled over on the side of the road on Sunday morning with her hazard lights on because she needed to tend to her newborn son.

‘She needed to stop to feed her newborn baby,’ the friend said.

A staff member at Gold Coast University Hospital added that little Jack was ‘screaming’ to be fed and that Ms Caneo had been out during the early hours of that morning as she needed to drop her partner at the hospital.

The driver of the Toyota, a 51-year-old Loganlea man, sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
