Hidden warning signs you are taking the WRONG dose of Ozempic: Doctor sounds alarm over dangerous mistake… and reveals four lifestyle tweaks to avoid horror side effects

GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Mounjaro and Wegovy can be great weight loss aids – when used correctly. But, if taken too far, they can have serious implications on the body.

To see it in real time, just look at Hollywood. During this year’s awards season, fans noticed how many starlets are seemingly at risk of shrinking clean out of sight.

Stars like Demi Moore, Matthew McConaughey, Scott Disick and Nicole Kidman are just some of the famous faces who have sparked rumors of injectable semiglutide and tirzepatide use – which have also morphed into widespread concern after showcasing their frail appearances.

But it’s not just a problem among celebrities. Anyone can accidentally go too far while using these so-called fat jabs and end up frighteningly gaunt.

And experts warn there are far more serious consequences at stake.

Dr Meena Malhotra, a double board-certified physician in internal and obesity medicine, exclusively told the Daily Mail about the physical changes that act as early warning signs someone may be going overboard with their GLP-1 receptor agonist use.

‘There is a difference between looking lean and looking undernourished,’ Malhotra, CEO of Heal n Cure Medical Wellness Center in Illinois, warned.

‘Healthy aging should preserve muscle, strength and vitality and not just make somebody smaller.’

Malhotra explained that the body can begin to tell someone it has had too much of the medication.

‘One of the biggest signs is excessive muscle loss instead of just fat loss,’ she said.

‘People start to look frail, tired, older in the face. They lose strength, [experience] hair thinning, dizziness, dehydration and constipation.’

She also warned that ‘Severe nausea, vomiting, weakness and fatigue are not signs the medication is “working better.”‘

The doctor said it is incredibly ‘worrying’ when patients continue to take the medications when their bodies are telling them to stop.

‘If someone is barely eating because they have no appetite at all, that’s not healthy weight loss anymore.’

Malhotra said this expedited drop ‘can stress the body, especially if nutrition, hydration and muscle mass are not protected properly.’

‘People forget fat tissue also makes hormones,’ the expert explained. ‘If body fat drops too low, especially in women, it can negatively affect the hormones, bone density, hair, skin and overall vitality.’

GLP-1 receptor agonists – originally designed to treat type 2 diabetes – have been adopted by a thin-obsessed celebrity culture, and at its heels, a scary new beauty standard has emerged.

Celebrities like Serena Williams, Charles Barkley, Rebel Wilson, Meghan Trainor, Oprah and James Corden have all confessed to taking these drugs for weight loss.

In early May, Moore made headlines when she showed off her slender frame at the Cannes Film Festival.

The actress has never admitted to using weight-loss drugs, but her appearance –particularly her arms – sparked an array of Ozempic rumors and left hoards of social media users worried for her health.

Emma Stone, Olivia Wilde and Kidman have all also faced Ozempic speculation after fans claimed they appeared to rapidly lose a lot of weight.

According to a November 2025 poll by KFF, one in eight adults said they were currently taking GLP-1 drugs to lose weight or treat a chronic condition.

One in five adults polled said they have tried a GLP-1 drug at some point.

When taken in a high dose, combined with appropriate diet and exercise, the fat jabs can help overweight people shed stubborn pounds.

But they have also been linked to serious complications such as permanent sight loss, scurvy, sagging skin and even a potentially higher risk of developing pancreatitis – not to mention the serious stomach troubles they can trigger, including vomiting and diarrhea.

In order to combat some of these unwanted complications and side effects, Malhotra said it is important that patients take care of their body simultaneously.

‘Strength training is the most important thing,’ she told the Daily Mail. ‘If you don’t send signal to preserve muscle, the body will lose muscle along with fat.’

She also flagged hydration and properly feed oneself as crucial.

‘Adequate protein, hydration, electrolytes and resistance training are key. And I also tell patients to stop chasing the smallest number on the scale and focus more on body composition, inflammation, energy, sleep and metabolic markers.’
