He said the terrorist hideouts were located in the interiors of Pakistan, far from the border areas.
Doval also emphasised on the criticality of developing indigenous defence technologies, as he spoke further about the operation.
“We missed none. We hit nowhere else except that. The precision was to the point where India knew who was where and the entire operation lasted hardly 23 minutes past 1 am on May 7,” Doval said, addressing the 62nd convocation ceremony of IIT Madras.
India launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7 when the military hit nine terror camps inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, killing more than 100 terrorists. It was New Delhi’s direct military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror strike that killed 26 people.
The operation triggered four days of strikes and counterstrikes with drones, missiles, and long-range weapons before both countries reached an understanding on May 10 to cease all hostilities.Doval debunked the narrative that Pakistan was successful in causing any damage in India. “Tell me one photograph, one image, which shows any damage to any Indian (structure), even a glass having been broken,” he said.Satellite imagery clearly showed damage to 13 Pakistani airbases before and after May 10, but there was “not a single scratch on Indian bases. That is the truth,” he asserted.
Pakistan has repeatedly claimed that it inflicted damage on India’s defence apparatus during Operation Sindoor. Doval spoke of one of the defining features of Operation Sindoor as being the indigenous components used in India’s defence systems – be it Brahmos missiles or radars. “We are really proud of how much of indigenous content was there,” he said, while calling for greater self-reliance in defence technology.
“We are going to completely indigenise our communication systems. It is necessary for data protection and security needs,” he said.
Doval also called AI a “game changer” and stressed that India must rapidly adopt emerging technologies without depending on foreign sources.
