Johnny Depp BITES leaves off plant backdrop as he raises a toast in bizarre display at Las Vegas booze festival

Johnny Depp playfully bit the leaves off a foliage backdrop while standing for photos at the food and beverage festival DRINK Las Vegas.

Footage obtained by the Daily Mail shows Depp, 63, raising a toast at Park MGM while indulging in the pleasures of the weekend-long multi-hotel extravaganza.

When the time came to take pictures, he found himself in front of an artificial hedge and tore one of the leaves off with his teeth in order to pose with it in his mouth.

After a moment, he spat the leaf out of his mouth, turned around and chomped off a stem with multiple leaves to enhance the spectacle.

Flashing a rakish smile as the greenery dangled over his lip, the Pirates of the Caribbean icon festively raised his glass to the photographers.

Depp was dressed in a characteristically boho-chic outfit, including a glinting black vest, orange-tinted shades and a sloping-brim cowboy hat.

The Daily Mail has contacted a representative for Depp for comment.

He was far from the only celebrity at Drink Las Vegas, which welcomed Shaquille O’Neal and Sammy Hagar to its opening ceremony on Thursday.

Depp’s hellraising reputation has been inextricable from his public image since the early decades of his Hollywood stardom in the 1980s and the 1990s.

As far back as 1994, he paid nearly $10,000 in damages to New York’s Mark Hotel after police found him in what they described as a ‘state of possible intoxication’ in his trashed room, where his then-girlfriend Kate Moss was also staying.

In 2017, during a legal dispute with his ex-managers, Depp admitted to spending $30,000 a month on wine, which his opponents noted in their own court documents: ‘is not an investment if you drink it as soon as you buy it.’

The Ed Wood star spent years as a pariah in Hollywood amid his highly publicized legal battles with his ex-wife Amber Heard, who is 23 years his junior.

They waged a blistering war of lawsuits against one another, accusing each other of abuse after their 15-month marriage disintegrated in 2016.

Heard had to pay Depp $1 million after losing the defamation case that he brought against her when she accused him of physical abuse.

Their lurid 2022 trial unfolded in the headlines, with Depp claiming Heard once left feces in his bed as a bizarre prank on her 30th birthday.

His alcohol intake became a meme when one of Heard’s attorneys described a supposed instance of Depp pouring himself a ‘mega pint of red wine.’ 

Heard’s attorneys also argued that Depp’s memory of the events of their relationship was unreliable because he was often under the influence.

Following the conclusion of the trial, Heard sold her home in Yucca Valley, California, for a reported $1.1 million and moved to Madrid with her daughter Oonagh, five.

Meanwhile, the year after his court victory, Depp was met with a rapturous reception at Cannes, where he premiered his French romantic drama Jeanne du Barry.

At the start of 2025, rocker Alice Cooper remarked that Depp went without alcohol while they toured together in their band the Hollywood Vampires.

Cooper, who quit drinking in 1983 after being diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver, explained that all of his bandmates were on the wagon with him.

‘Johnny Depp is my guitar player in the Hollywood Vampires. We’re all sober and he’s sitting there and he has an alcohol-free Heineken. And he’s vaping,’ said Cooper.

‘So he’s got phony cigarettes and phony alcohol, and I told him he was gonna have a phony heart attack,’ Cooper joked to People.

However, a few months later, Depp drank Aperol, wine and rum with his interviewer during a wide-ranging profile in June 2025 in the Times of London.
