Light plane crashes near Brisbane sparking a huge bushfire
A light plane has crashed south of Brisbane, sparking a major grass fire.
Police received reports that a plane had crashed at a rural property on Musch Road at Chambers Flat near Logan shortly after 11am on Monday.
Locals called triple-0 after hearing an explosion and saw black smoke billowing into the air.
‘At this time, the number of people on board or injuries are unknown,’ a Queensland Police statement read.
‘The response to the incident is ongoing and there is no further information available at this time.’
The Beechcraft A36 Bonanza took off from Brisbane’s Archerfield Airport and was in the air for 18 minutes before it crashed, according to FlightRadar24 data.
Dozens of emergency responders remain at the scene, including 12 fire crews that battled the blaze, which has since been contained.
‘The grass fire is now under control with no threat to property structures,’ a spokesperson told the Daily Mail.

Photos from the scene showed the wreckage of a plane strewn across a blackened paddock.
Australian Transport Safety Bureau officials will attend the crash site on Monday afternoon and launch an investigation.
‘They will commence evidence-gathering activities including site and wreckage examination, and the recovery of any aircraft components of interest for further examination at the ATSB’s technical facilities in Canberra,’ a spokesperson said.
‘Investigators will also interview any witnesses and involved parties, and collect relevant recorded information including flight tracking data, as well as pilot and aircraft maintenance records, and weather information.’
